Transfer From PPCC to Four-Year Schools

Many Pikes Peak Community College students plan to go to a four-year college. Some students don’t plan on it, but end up deciding to transfer later. If you are one of these students, you are probably asking some of the following questions.

What courses transfer?
Where should I transfer?
When should I transfer?
What special preparations should I be making?
How should I go about it?
Who can help?

Faculty Advisors can provide you with information on transfer opportunities which will assist you in completing the transfer process.

In addition they may provide and you can find on this web page:

  1. information about course selection and entrance into courses and programs at four-year colleges and universities.
  2. information on special admissions privileges and scholarships available at four-year schools.
  3. schedules of advising representatives from four-year colleges who have regularly scheduled office hours on PPCC’s campuses or visit PPCC campuses to provide additional information.
  4. contact names and information for most four-year colleges and universities transfer coordinators/advisors.
  5. information on transfer of credit to Colleges and Universities that have agreements with PPCC and special considerations for PPCC graduates.

Planning ahead while being enrolled at Pikes Peak Community College will help make the transfer process go more smoothly. PPCC students are encouraged to consult with faculty advisors to determine which programs or courses will best suit their goals.

After a degree audit or an evaluation of credit is completed, it may be possible for students to revise their programs at Pikes Peak Community College to make up deficiencies or complete additional course requirements, if necessary.

Faculty advisors help outline and plan courses in the proper sequence. Pikes Peak Community College is accredited, and credits earned here are readily transferable to four-year colleges and universities with the exceptions of:

  1. "D" grades and below will not be accepted by four-year colleges and universities.
  2. Credit for non-college level developmental or remedial courses is not transferable.
  3. Some colleges request placement or competency entrance examinations at or before registration to determine the exact level of achievement in certain areas. Course placement may depend on the results of these examinations.

The sooner a student decides on a major at the four-year college he or she wants to attend, the easier it will be to plan a program at Pikes Peak Community College. Students should not wait until their last semesters at Pikes Peak Community College to make decisions. In some cases, four-year colleges and universities ask that students “register” with them as potential transfers. After registration, and upon completion of requirements, these students will then qualify for scholarship programs, waiver of application fees, etc.

A student considering transfer should answer the following questions:

  • Have you accomplished your goals at Pikes Peak Community College?
  • Is your grade-point average acceptable to transfer to another school?
  • Have you completed the courses you will need?
  • Are your confident in your ability?
  • Are you prepared to select a major program of study?
  • Are you ready for the financial costs of a four-year college or university?

BENEFITS OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE COMPLETION

Consider the benefits of earning an associate in arts or associate in science degree:

1. Pikes Peak Community College’s tuition rate is approximately 1/3 of the cost of most public four-year colleges and universities in Colorado.
2. Completion of a degree shows a student’s success at the college level.
3. Colorado Community College System’s 60+60 Bachelor’s Degree Transfer Program - Students beginning classes in the fall of 2003 or later must follow the guidelines established for the 60+60 Bachelor’s Degree Transfer Program. Completion of the 60+60 Bachelor’s Degree Transfer Program and an AA or AS degree with a grade of C or better in each class qualifies the student to transfer under this policy in liberal arts and sciences to public four-year colleges and universities in Colorado. NOTE: Degrees that have current state-wide agreements (Teacher preparation, Business, Engineering, and Nursing) have specific course requirements – consult your faculty advisor for details. These agreements may be found at: http://www.cccs.edu/EdServices/Transfer.html 60+60 Pages
