Office of Sustainability Brings Home the Green
LeeAnn Westfall, May 10, 2012
LeeAnn Westfall, as coordinator for the Office of Sustainability is happy to have been awarded Veda Salon's annual ‘Greenie Award’ for 2012. A little background: Several years ago, Veda Salon & Spa decided to recognize the organizations and individuals committed to sustainability in Colorado Springs.
The Office of Sustainability was nominated by community members and was among several other higher education institutions, including Colorado College and the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (UCCS). In the end, PPCC was able to capture the most votes and won the award on April 28 at the Faces of the World Fashion Show and Greenie Award Ceremony.
In conjunction with the Greenie Awards, Pikes Peak Earth Day announced PPCC as the winner for their Community Grant of $5,000. This grant was made possible by the Pikes Peak Community Foundation and donations from the citizens of Colorado Springs. Westfall is happy to receive these awards on behalf of Pikes Peak Community College and those students, staff and faculty members who so graciously supported the Office of Sustainability with their votes!
The Sustainability Office will be using the grant money for the hydration station project. The Facilities, Maintenance and Operations department will begin installation this summer. Keep your eyes open for delicious, cold-filtered water waiting to replenish your reusable bottle!
Finally, and perhaps most important, these two awards are a reflection of the PPCC community’s pride and shows the public that we have a positive impact on the Pikes Peak region. Together, we can create change and continue to further the success of our students at Pikes Peak Community College.
