With your AAS in Accounting from Pikes Peak Community College, you’ll be ready to move right into a job in accounting, bookkeeping or auditing. You’ll supply the raw data that business, industry and government leaders need to make critical decisions concerning how and where money should be spent. With money as the driving force behind the global economy, you’ll be positioned to play an integral role wherever you choose to apply your skills in accounting. And since this is an area of expertise that is high in demand, you can work anywhere in the country you choose.
Program Description
PPCC offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Accounting, as well as a short-term certificate in basic bookkeeping and spreadsheets. The degree program is designed for the student who will seek immediate employment in the accounting field upon graduation or who is presently employed in accounting and allied fields and desires advancement. Students are given a strong academic grounding and practical experience in many different areas including accounting principles, business principles, computer technology, communication skills, income tax, cost accounting, governmental accounting, and payroll. The curriculum in the program is updated annually to include accounting changes and new technology.
Career Path Notes
Students will have the option to participate in an internship program that will provide them with the opportunity to work in the industry, to gain practical experience, and see the different aspects of working in a professional environment that they may not see in a classroom setting.

Employment Opportunities
Graduates of this program are prepared to enter an accounting career in business, industry, and various governmental agencies. Specific job duties vary widely in the four major fields of accounting. Public accountants perform a broad range of accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting activities for their clients. Management accountants record and analyze the financial information of the companies for which they work. Government accountants maintain and examine the records of government agencies, and audit private businesses and individuals whose activities are subject to government regulations or taxation. Bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks are an organization’s financial record keepers. They compute, classify, record, and verify numerical data, to develop and maintain financial records.
Earnings Outlook
In Colorado, the median hourly salary in 2005 for Bookkeeping, Accounting, and Auditing Clerks was $15.32, with a salary range of $9.80–22.04. From 2004 to 2014, there are expected to be an average of 1420 job openings per year in Colorado, an increase of 21%. Source: Bureau of Labor Statistic
