In an office environment, everyone’s best friend is the IT specialist. When you hold the key to unlocking the mysteries of the PC, you hold the power. With an Associate’s Degree in Computer Networking Technology, you will gain a thorough understanding of the hardware and software that governs computer networks. You will also receive a solid basis in networking technology and the installation and maintenance of computer networks. Extensive hands-on experience will give you the training necessary to become a successful professional in this field where the average salary is well above average.
Networking Technology is the study of how people share computer-based information and resources through the use of personal computers. You might choose this career area if you are interested in applying hands-on technical and troubleshooting skills to design, install, and support computer networks. You’ll find networks in people’s homes where two or three users share a handful of PCs, in large companies where thousands of people work on hundreds of different systems, and even on the Internet itself where global giants share information around the clock, twenty-four, seven.
The Networking Technology AAS degree will provide you with practical and relevant skillls in the field of computer networking in a vendor-neutral environment. That means you’ll learn all the basics you need to become a skilled operator in computer software, hardware and network operating systems as well as networking device configuration, including Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks, Network Analysis and Design, and TCP/IP.

Program Description
The Networking Technology AAS degree and Certificate provide you with practical and relevant skills for a career in today’s high speed computer networking. You will learn basic skills in computer software, computer hardware, network operating systems, and network device configuration. The Network emphasis focuses on the software aspects of support for local and wide-area networks (LANs and WANs). Those who choose the Cisco emphasis will focus on the hardware aspects of using and configuring routers and switches for LANs and WANs.
You may begin with a certificate, then continue on to complete the Associate of Applied Science degree. When you complete this program you will be eligible to apply for certain industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+ and CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate).
More advanced networking careers such as Network Administrator or Network Systems Analyst generally require at least a Bachelor’s degree. Students interested in pursuing such a career directly should enroll in the Associate of Science degree in Computer Science, then continue on for a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Networking, Systems Analysis, Management Information Systems, or similar programs at a four-year college or university.
