Learning Assistance Center Services

FREE TO CURRENT PPCC STUDENTS

So that you may achieve your goals, you are welcome to join our mission: tutors are available to help nurture and develop independent learning and critical thinking skills by providing students an environment of academic seriousness and by supporting the excellence in instruction and learning faculty have already established.

Tutoring

The LAC focuses on group tutoring sessions called SI or Cluster sessions.  However, the LAC does provide additional tutoring upon request.  All tutoring is dependent upon available resources.

Learning Clusters

Clusters are group sessions where the tutor is not sit in on the class with the students.  Cluster sessions are open to all PPCC students and are attended on a walk-in basis.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Sessions

SI sessions are group sessions targeted to a specific class and where the tutor sits in on the class with the targeted students.

A place to focus and study with peers

The LAC is an academic learning facility, centrally located and staffed with trained professionals to help you.

Study Skills and Organizational Assistance

The LAC is staffed with skilled professionals who are experienced in time management and study skills.  Please call to make and appointment to meet with a Lead Tutor or Tutoring Supervisor for consultation.

Placement Test Workshops

Placement Test Workshops focus on reviewing English and Math concepts to prepare you for the ACCUPLACER.  These workshops have been recorded onto DVD to be checked out and watched in the LAC for your convenience.

College Success Workshops

College Success Workshops are scheduled free of charge for students to attend and help with basic study skills techniques, time management, test anxiety, stress management, graphing calculator workshops and a whole lot more!  Many of these workshops have been recorded onto DVD and can be checked out and watch in the LAC for your convenience.

Finals Preparation Workshops

The LAC encourages you to attend tutoring sessions consistently throughout the semester.  Usually the last few scheduled sessions will focus on finals exam preparation for that specific course.  However, we do schedule math finals review sessions in addition to scheduled tutoring sessions before finals.
