FAQ's about being a Tutor:

Question:  What do I need to be a Tutor?

Answer:  To apply to be a tutor for the Learning Assistance Center you need to receive a B or better in the course you want to tutor for, receive an instructor's endorsement (signature), and have an overall GPA of 3.0.

Question: What  is work-study and how do I see if I'm eligible?

Answer:  Work-study funds are made available to assist students with their college financing through part-time campus employment. Students approved for this program can be eligible to work a maximum of 20 hours per week when school is in session and more during breaks (depending on the position and the student's unmet financial need). You must be enrolled in a degree or eligible certificate program.  Apply using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or renewal.  Work-study is available as need based and without regard to need, depending on your situation.  See Financial Aid Offices, located at each campus.

Question:  Is work-study eligibility required to be a tutor?

Answer:  No.  We encourage you to apply for financial aid (need based and non-need based), but it is not required for you to apply to be a tutor.

Question:  What if I have never tutored before?

Answer:  All tutors are trained before they are permitted to tutor and we have lead tutors and your supervisor to help you continuously throughout the semester.

Question:  Can I tutor if I just want the experience and not the pay?

Answer:  Of course, as long as you are hired and trained you can tutor as a voluteer and acquire volunteer hours.  Many students volunteer as a tutor to add to their experiences and resumes.  This is also a great opportunity to give back to your community.

Question:  What if I only have a few hours in my week to work?

Answer:  You can work as much or as little as you like.  Your schedule is determined from your availability and the LAC's needs.

Question:  What if I don't want to work at the Centennial Campus in the Learning Assistance Center?

Answer:  We provide tutoring at ALL of the PPCC campuses and schedule you according to your convenience.
