Want To Be A Tutor?

Tutoring!  Why me?

Here are some reasons why YOU want to be an SI/Cluster Leader (Tutor):

It is one of the highest-paid student positions on campus (especially for those with Financial Aid Student Employment or "FASE").

We schedule you according to your availability.

You have the opportunity to sit-in, review course material, and get paid for it.

You have an opportunity to review and learn material you need for upper divisional courses.

Many Pre-Med and nursing students better prepare for MCATs and clinicals by becoming tutors.

You can be certified with the College Reading and Learning Association (http://www.crla.net).

Ideal to have on your application for scholarships.

Helping students learn is one of the most rewarding experiences you will have.

Great opportunity to collaborate with PPCC faculty, staff, and our partnership organizations.

Networking, Networking, Networking!

It looks amazing on a resume!

FAQ's about being a Tutor:

Question:  What do I need to be a Tutor?

Answer:  To apply to be a tutor for the Learning Assistance Centers you need to have received an A or B in the course you want to tutor, receive an instructor's endorsement (signature), and have an overall GPA of 3.0.

Question: What  is Financial Aid Student Employment (FASE) and how do I see if I'm eligible?

Answer:  Financial Aid Student Employment (formerly Student Staff) funds are made available to assist students with their college financing through part-time campus employment. Students approved for this program can be eligible to work a maximum of 20 hours per week when school is in session and more during breaks (depending on the position and the student's unmet financial need). You must be enrolled in a degree or eligible certificate program.  Apply using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or renewal.  FASE is available as both need-based and no-need, depending on your situation.  See Financial Aid Offices, located at each campus.

Question:  Is FASE eligibility required to be a tutor?

Answer:  No.  We encourage you to apply for financial aid (need based and non-need based), but it is not required for you to apply to be a tutor.

Question:  What if I have never tutored before?

Answer:  All tutors (even those with prior experience) are trained before they are permitted to tutor, and the Lead Tutors and Coordinator are here to help you throughout the semester.

Question:  Can I tutor if I just want the experience and not the pay?

Answer:  Yes. As long as you are hired and trained you can tutor as a volunteer and acquire volunteer hours.  Many students volunteer as tutors to add to their experiences and resumes.  This is also a great opportunity to give back to your community.

Question:  What if I only have a few hours in my week to work?

Answer:  You can work as much or as little as you like.  Your schedule is determined based on your availability and the LAC's needs.

Question:  What if I don't want to work at the Centennial Campus (live closer to/attend Rampart Range)?

Answer:  We provide tutoring at ALL four PPCC campuses and schedule you according to your preference. We want to provide as much tutoring at the other 3 campuses as possible and welcome those who can be at the other locations.

Question:  How do I start?

Answer:  Contact Financial Aid for possible eligibility for FASE funding:
