About the Program
The AAS Fire Science Program will help you learn about one of the noblest professions in the world. Our Program focuses on every aspect of working as a firefighter and will teach you about all aspects of the fire service - from entry level firefighter courses to officer level instruction and leadership courses, firefighter career overview and preparation, firefighter occupational safety and health, fire prevention practices, building construction, fire protection systems, hazardous materials, instructional methodology, strategy and tactics, hydraulics, fire codes and ordinances, fire investigation, officer supervision and leadership, and wildland firefighting. Also included is a fire academy that provides foundational firefighter knowledge attainment, practical skills development and physical ability preparation to become a firefighter. Because the program can be completed online or on campus with courses given in 8 week bi-mester time frames, PPCC is one of the most versatile programs in the country. Credits transfer to other 4 year schools through agreements we have reached to allow you the opportunity to continue your education past the Associates Degree.
Pikes Peak Community College has provided educational opportunities over the last twenty five years for fire service professionals and students wanting to complete an associate degree in fire science technology. This program is designed to prepare individuals who have little or no experience with the firefighting profession for entry level positions in the fire service industry, including fire protection, emergency management, firefighting, and wildland firefighter knowledge; and also designed to allow experienced firefighters to receive awarded credits for knowledge gained through experience and training through the Fire Science Credit for Prior Learning Program, after which their learning can be expanded by successfully completing additional courses to complete the degree. We are also a collaborative partner with surrounding emergency agencies and colleges to continuously promote higher technical education, job performance and self-confidence in the students with the instruction of professional and qualified instructors with the most current practices. This degree is valuable for promotions and advancement within the fire service. We offer all the required 3 credit FST classes at a distance through the Internet. For the Fire Service Professional we have a Prior Learning Credit program where you can receive college credit towards the degree for your previous training, experience and education.
