Q. What if I have never tutored before?

All tutors (even those with prior experience) are trained before they are permitted to tutor, and the Lead Tutors, Assistant Coordinator, and Coordinator are here to help you throughout the semester.

Q. What if I only have a few hours in my week to work?

You can work as much or as little as you like.  Your schedule is determined based on your availability and the LAC's needs.

Q. Can I tutor if I just want the experience and not the pay?

Yes. As long as you are hired and trained you can tutor as a volunteer and acquire volunteer hours.  Many students volunteer as tutors to add to their experiences and resumes.  This is also a great opportunity to give back to your community.

We provide tutoring at all four PPCC campuses and schedule you according to your preference. We want to provide as much tutoring at the other three campuses as possible and welcome those who can be at the other locations.

Q. What do I need to be a Tutor?

Financial Aid Student Employment (formerly Student Staff) funds are made available to assist students with their college financing through part-time campus employment. Students approved for this program can be eligible to work a maximum of 20 hours per week when school is in session and more during breaks (depending on the position and the student's unmet financial need). You must be enrolled in a degree or eligible certificate program.  Apply using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or renewal.  FASE is available as both need-based and no-need, depending on your situation.  See Financial Aid Offices, located at each campus.

Q. Is FASE eligibility required to be a tutor?

No.  We encourage you to apply for financial aid (need based and non-need based), but it is not required for you to apply to be a tutor.
