Colorado Springs, Colo. – Feb. 22, 2013 – Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC) and the Downtown Studio Campus Art Gallery present the opening reception for AIR LIGHT BREATH, the fourth in the gallery’s Tikun Olam series of exhibitions, Friday, March 8, 5-7:30 p.m., PPCC Downtown Studio Campus, 100 W. Pikes Peak Ave.

“This exhibit presents physical manifestations of ethereal phenomena. AIR LIGHT BREATH hopes to give the viewer pause as they consider our dependence on air and light–elements that we cannot hold but are inspired to look at through the artist’s eye,” says Laura Ben-Amots, gallery director and exhibit curator.

AIR LIGHT BREATH combines the art of Corey Drieth, Donny Dixon, De Lane Bredvik and Tanya Gelster. Together, the work presents an abstracted or conceptual connection to environmental themes with an emphasis on tikun olam, the Judaic notion of humanity’s shared responsibility to repair or heal the world.

In addition to the exhibit, several events are held in the gallery through the April 12 exhibit closing, including a solo saxophone performance (March 28, 6 p.m.), “30 Lines or Less,” an evening of original recitations and philosophical reflections (April 5, 6 p.m.) and Enlightened, a panel discussion on the subject of the sun, qualities of light and man’s quest for spiritual enlightenment (date and time TBA). All events are free and open to the public.

Pikes Peak Community College, in its 45th year of operation, is a two-year college offering associate’s degrees and various certifications in career and technical fields. With four campuses, three military education centers in El Paso county and more than 200 programs of study, PPCC serves approximately 22,000 students annually.
