PPCC Announces New Associate Dean and Financial Aid Director

Colorado Springs, Colo. – July 24, 2013 – Maria Langley is appointed associate dean of Transfer Disciplines in the Communication, Technology, and Technical Studies Division of Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC) and Ron Swartwood is hired as the director of Financial Aid.
As associate dean of Transfer Disciplines, Langley will directly support faculty and programs of instruction in American Sign Language, Communication, Foreign Language, History, Humanities and Philosophy.
Langley comes to PPCC from her position as chair of the World Languages Program at Community College of Denver (CCD). During her tenure at CCD, she contributed to student success and retention through collaborative and sustainable language program development. Langley taught languages at the University of Northern Colorado, Colorado State University, Purdue University, Bowling Green State University, Adams State College and University of Georgia.
Langley served as discipline chair for Foreign Languages for the Colorado Community College System and is the current president of the American Association of Teachers of French, Colorado/Wyoming Chapter.
Langley has a doctorate from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in French, a master of arts in French Literature from Middlebury College, Vermont and a bachelor of arts in French Literature and Civilization.
As director of Financial Aid for PPCC, Ron Swartwood will take a leadership role in planning, developing and implementing effective and efficient financial aid strategies and policies while partnering with other PPCC divisions to ensure a consistent approach to enrollment management. His department coordinates the delivery of over $60 million in federal, state, institutional and external financial aid annually.
Swartwood brings 17 years of progressive financial aid experience in the field of higher education. He served six years as director of Financial Aid at Pueblo Community College (PCC) where he was responsible for overall management and policy formulation including funds management; compliance with institutional, state and federal regulations and policies; and collaboration with college-wide initiatives and strategic goals. In addition, he served ten years as assistant director of Financial Aid at PCC.
Swartwood has a master of science in Management from Regis University and a bachelor of arts in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration from University of Southern Colorado.
Pikes Peak Community College, in its 45th year of operation, is a two-year college offering associate’s degrees and various certifications in career and technical fields. With four campuses, two military education centers in El Paso County and nearly 200 programs of study, PPCC serves approximately 22,000 students annually.
