PPCC Welcomes Interim Executive Director of Foundation and Marketing Support Specialist

Colorado Springs, Colo.- Feb. 27 - Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC) welcomes Phillip M. Tinsley as interim executive director of the PPCC Foundation and Karen Kovaly as marketing support specialist.
Tinsley, who is also a member of the PPCC Foundation’s Board of Directors, will provide leadership while the college searches for a permanent executive director. During his tenure, he will play a key role in strategic planning, act as a catalyst for comprehensive partnerships and outreach programs and be responsible for the development of external funding sources.
With more than 35 years of professional experience, Tinsley recently retired from Lockheed Martin. As a retired Navy pilot and systems engineer, he brings management skills that allow him to work with a wide array of personalities and curriculums.
Tinsley holds a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from the University of South Florida and a master’s degree in System Technologies (Space Operations) from the Navy Post Graduate School.
Kovaly, the college’s marketing support specialist, will communicate, coordinate and integrate all marketing and communication efforts. Her role will include project management, event communications, media relations and internal communication.
Before joining PPCC, Karen served as the Lifestyle Management Program manager at Penrose St. Francis Health Services where she developed, promoted and delivered employee and corporate wellness programs. While there, she also supervised and coordinated staff, wrote policy and procedure documents and program summary reports, created communication materials, and assisted in the promotion of the wellness programs and services.
Prior to this, Kovaly spent 10 years as the director of Corporate Relations for the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region. There she developed and administered the corporate membership and corporate wellness programs and created a wide variety of marketing and communication materials to promote YMCA programs and events to more than 200 local organizations. In addition, she coordinated the YMCA employee wellness program, trained staff on communication and wellness coaching and worked with community leaders to increase opportunities for healthier living in the Colorado Springs community.
Karen has a bachelor’s degree in Communication Science from The University of Connecticut and has lived and worked in the Colorado Springs area for more than 13 years.
Pikes Peak Community College, in its 45th year of operation, is a two-year college offering associate’s degrees and various certifications in career and technical fields. With four campuses, three military education centers in El Paso county and more than 200 programs of study, PPCC serves approximately 22,000 students annually.
