About PPCC's Strategic Plan
Lance Bolton, Ph.D., April 26, 2012
“If you don't know where you're going, you probably won’t get there.” This nugget of wisdom from the inimitable Yogi Berra was posted on the professor’s door whose office was next to my Dad’s when I was in grammar school. I don’t know if many of the targeted college students were impacted by Yogi’s words of wisdom, but I certainly was.
Yogi made the case with his usual razor-sharp wit and seemingly accidental brilliance for exactly why people and organizations must embrace planning as a means of identifying and moving toward goals that further their cause or mission. Organizations risk aimless drift when they fail to maintain and update plans or fail to focus continually on their plans and goals.
PPCC completed an update of our strategic plan during the current academic year. We had wonderful leadership from Debbie Sagen who kept us on track and moving forward, but allowed our voices and issues to carry the weight we wanted.
The process benefited tremendously from broad participation from all employee groups, campuses and areas of interest. As a result, we are publishing an updated Strategic Plan for the coming five years that will ensure we know where we are going.
It will be my intent to provide an annual report card documenting our progress each year versus the planned goals. We will also aspire to keep the document fresh and updated as changes in our community, our college or our operating environment drive new strategic directives. The college is invited to continue participating in the process.
