2. Financial Aid

Besides Army Tuition Assistance, you may be eligible for additional financial aid to defray some of the costs that are not covered by TA, such as textbooks. Getting help is easier than you think. The key is to get your paperwork in early. All it takes to apply for financial aid, including grants, loans, scholarships and work study programs, is a single application form. The earlier you get your application in, the better your chances to be considered for all available sources of financial assistance. Get started today by connecting to our Financial Aid website. For more information, contact a Financial Aid Advisor at 719.540.PPCC or 1.866.411.PPCC.

3. Placement

This is the one test everybody aces. It's a quick evaluation of your basic skills in reading, English and math that helps your advisor, and you, know where your college education should start. If you have ACT or SAT scores, or if you have taken college classes before, you may not need a placement test. But to be on the safe side, contact the Military Programs advisor at 719.502.4200, 1.888.milprog or vanessa.cook@ppcc.edu.
We offer testing at the Education Centers as well as on campus. For hours of operation, click on a link below.

4. In State Residency

Make sure to pick up a Tuition Classification Certification Form (Green Form) from the Education Center at your location. A Green Form is required in order to receive in-state tuition, and if you don't have one on file at PPCC, you will be charged the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition. Green Forms must be submitted to PPCC prior to the drop (or census) date of the term in which you are enrolled and the forms are good for one semester.

5. Apply for the Colorado Opportunity Fund

All active duty service members and their family members residing in Colorado must apply for the Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF). If you do not have a Colorado drivers license, connect to the Colorado Opportunity Fund website to print out a paper application form.  Fill out the form completely, leaving the "Colorado Drivers license/ID" field blank (please note: we no longer require a notary signature on this document), then
mail the form addressed to:

PPCC Military and Veterans Programs
5675 S. Academy Blvd.
Campus Box C24
Colorado Springs, CO 80906

or scan the form and send as a PDF attachment to:

mil.programs@ppcc.edu

or hand carry the form to:

  • Ft. Carson Education Center, Building 1117, room 118
  • Peterson Air Force Base Education Center, Building 1141, room 112
  • Any Enrollment Services Office on all four campuses

If you have a Colorado drivers license or ID, you may complete and submit the application online. Note: COF also applies to service members and families who are legal residents of Colorado but not currently assigned to a duty station within Colorado. Non Colorado resident service members and their families who are not assigned PCS to an installation in Colorado must pay non-resident tuition and fees until residency has been established.

7. Registration and Tuition Assistance

Your application is in, you've completed your placement test, and you've spoken to an advisor - what's next? Registration! Here's where you book your classes and set your schedule in place.

  • First, Active duty military personnel who are first time students must see an Education Counselor to set up and activate an account in GoArmyEd, the education and Tuition Assistance (TA) portal for the Army. You can reach an Army Education Counselor by calling 719.526.9885 or 719.526.4121, or by stopping by the Education Center on post in room 160B.
  • Second, go to the PPCC registration page and sign up for classes. If you are registering for classes held on Peterson Air Force Base, give them a call at 719.502.4300 or come by our office for assistance. Active Duty Army personnel, don't forget to complete your registration by logging into your GAE account and registering in the same courses to make sure your TA is applied to your classes.
