NEW STUDENTS

1ADVISING
Go to the Ft. Carson Education Center and discuss your academic plans with an ACES Counselor. Be sure that you understand the degree plan and what courses the Army will approve and support with Tuition Assistance dollars (TA). You may call them at (719) 526-9885 or (719) 526-4121.

2.  APPLY DIRECTLY TO PIKES PEAK COMMUNITY COLLEGE before you request your TA through GoArmyEd. It’s simple. Complete an online application. It’s free!

3.  CONFIRM YOUR APPLICATION TO PPCC THROUGH GoArmyEd
What, you say? I have already applied to Pikes Peak; why do I need to do this? The Army requires every soldier to apply to the college through the GoArmyEd portal to establish your eligibility to attend Pikes Peak, generate your Student Agreement and obtain TA. The process is easy and since you have already applied on our website, the application is a snap. Processing through the Army portal will require a two-business day turnaround.

4.  TAKE THE PLACEMENT TEST
This is a Colorado state requirement and is one test that everybody aces. We offer the Placement Test at our Ft. Carson and Peterson AFB locations.  Please see Our Locations for specific days and times.

5. TURN IN A GREEN FORM: Green forms grant soldiers and their families in-state residency. These forms must be renewed each semester. These can be picked up in the Education Center of Ft. Carson. A PPCC Employee will be waiting to guide you.

IMPORTANT: Soldiers permanently assigned (PCS) to Colorado must have the Tuition Classification Certification form (Green Form) completed and signed by an Education Services official at the Ft. Carson Education Center. Failure to submit a Green Form will result in the soldier being liable for non-resident tuition rates. Soldiers not on PCS orders to Colorado must pay non-resident tuition rates and need not complete this certification.

6.  APPLY FOR THE COLLEGE OPPORTUNITY FUND (COF)
Colorado has changed the way it funds Higher Education. To have affordable in-state tuition, all Army members (and your college-aged family members) permanently assigned (PCS) to a station in Colorado must sign up for the College Opportunity Fund. You only need to do it once, but if you don’t, you will be personally liable for the tuition Colorado would have paid – approximately $68 per credit hour. Remember, you must also always authorize the use of your COF funds for your classes each semester when you register. The Army will not pay the COF amount of the tuition bill. NOTE: COF also applies to service members and their families who are legal residents of Colorado but who are not currently assigned to a duty station within Colorado.

NON-COLORADO RESIDENT SERVICE MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES WHO ARE NOT ASSIGNED PCS TO AN INSTALLATION IN COLORADO MUST PAY NON-RESIDENT TUITION AND FEES UNTIL RESIDENCY IS ESTABLISHED.
To sign up for COF, print out a paper application from the COF website and submit it to our office, or visit our office in person to fill out the one-time application.

7.  REGISTER DIRECTLY WITH PPCC BEFORE you register through GoArmyEd
Note: the registration process is a great deal easier if you register with us first and then confirm your PPCC registrations with GoArmyEd! GoArmyEd is not aware of Colorado course prerequisite requirements nor does GoArmyEd allow you register for classes more than eight weeks in advance – registering with PPCC first ensures you have a seat in the classes you want and are eligible for.

Be sure to check out our latest military-only offerings. You can only register for these special courses sending an e-mail to mil.programs@ppcc.edu and obtaining special call numbers (CRN's) for the classes you are interested in or by stopping in our office at the Ft. Carson Education Center, room 118.  Campus-wide schedule.

8.  REGISTER WITH GoArmyEd
Want to have the Army pay for your courses? DON’T MISS THIS STEP! Once you have completed registration through PPCC, you must go to the GoArmyEd portal at earmyu.com and register for the exact same classes. Failure to do so will result in the Army denying you tuition assistance for your classes -- not a good thing! Make sure you register for the same course and section number that you registered for with Pikes Peak Community College.

IMPORTANT -- GoArmyEd REGISTRATION WINDOW: You cannot register for a course through GoArmyEd more than eight weeks prior to the start date of a class. While you hopefully will have already registered through PPCC, you need to be sure to go back to GoArmyEd and register for the same course when it becomes available in the portal. If you decide not to take the class, be sure to contact PPCC and drop the course prior to PPCC's published drop date or you will be responsible for paying all associated tuition and fees.

9.  APPLY FOR ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL AID THROUGH PPCC
Besides Army Tuition Assistance, you might be eligible for additional financial aid to defray some of the costs the Army doesn’t pay for. Getting help is easier than you think. The trick is getting your paperwork in early. All it takes to apply for financial aid, including grants, loans, and scholarships is a single application form. But the earlier you get your application in, the better your chances to be considered for all available sources of financial assistance. So apply online today at fafsa.ed.gov.

10.  TELL US ABOUT YOUR TRANSFER COURSES
You may already be well on the way to getting a degree from PPCC! You should tell our advisor of any college-level courses that you have already successfully completed from an accredited college or university. In addition, you may need to request an official copy of your transcripts from your former college(s) and have them sent directly to:

    Transcript Evaluator
    Campus Box 8
    Pikes Peak Community College
    5675 South Academy Blvd.
    Colorado Springs, CO  80906

Downloadable Transcript Request Form.
We can only accept hand-carried transcripts if they are in their original, sealed envelopes from the granting college/university.

CHANGING YOUR CLASS SCHEDULE
DROPPING/ADDING/CHANGING A CLASS:
Soldiers can (and should) add, change, or drop courses in GoArmyEd to match their PPCC schedule, only up until the last day to register. If you need to drop a class, you may do so online at www.ppcc.edu. Make sure to also drop the class in GoArmyEd. Once the term begins and the drop period passes, soldiers cannot change courses in GoArmyEd without close coordination with the PPCC office on Ft. Carson.

WITHDRAWALS ONCE THE TERM HAS STARTED

Soldiers who cannot complete the course due to military reasons (duty, deployment, etc.) must notify the Army through GoArmyEd or you will be held liable for recoupment of the tuition assistance dollars paid out by the Army. Be sure to also comply with the PPCC published withdrawal deadlines (you can withdraw). PPCC rules regarding withdrawal deadlines, grades, fees, and appeal and waiver requests will apply - see our catalog for details.

PRIOR MILITARY CREDIT:

Contact a PPCC Soldiers Opportunity College advisor by sending an e-mail to mil.programs@ppcc.edu. They know all the ins and outs of registration, proper course sequencing, and the prerequisites you’ll need to graduate in any given major. You must work through the PPCC advisor to complete your Student Agreement with the college after completing six credit hours with us.
