The Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) treats a broad range of life threatening emergency medical conditions and traumatic injuries.  The EMT-B is trained to perform a broad range of life saving emergency medical procedures such as airway management, bleeding control, splinting, bandaging, and child birth.  You might choose this career if you are interested in helping others by providing emergency medical care in a variety of settings.  You will rely on your knowledge and ability to react quickly in urgent situations, both on emergency scenes and in medical facilities.  Typically, the EMT-B gives immediate care and then transports the sick or injured patient to medical facilities.  If you can use good judgment while under stress, have leadership ability and emotional stability, and can adapt to many different situations, then you may enjoy this exciting and challenging career. EMT-Basics are often found employed at ambulance services, fire departments, hospital emergency departments and local industry.
