Program Times: Online

Class Location:  Because the entire program is offered online, students can access courses any day of the week, day or night, from the convenience of their own home or from another location that has Internet access. This would include the public library, a PPCC-sponsored lab, a friend or family member's computer, a copy shop, an Internet café, or other WiFi-capable location. That is, a major benefit with the online format allows a student to attend the entire program depending on their own personal schedule.

Microsoft Certified Application Specialist certification positions job seekers to obtain a competitive edge in the job market and enlarges employment opportunities by clearly demonstrating present and future value to a potential employer. MCAS certifications show that an individual has mastered the use of Microsoft applications and permits an individual to turn personal value into professional and financial success. Advanced-level positions may be found in a variety of industries including, but not limited to: Stock Market Analysis, Financial and Budgetary Planning, Bookkeeping, Statistics, Strategy Analysis, Logistics, Marketing, Data Management, Editing, Writing, Publishing, Design, and Web Design. In essence, MCAS certifications allow an individual to determine their own personal direction, pursue the profession of their own choosing, and more rapidly obtain that position.

PROGRAM COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

MCAS Word 2007   (June 1 - July 10)

This course is ideal for users that are unfamiliar with the new Microsoft Office 2007 visual-system; yet the course progresses to advanced levels of proficiency with Microsoft Office 2007. Topics covered are based directly upon the 6-point MCAS Word 2007 Certification Matrix:

1.     Creating and formatting documents, laying-out documents, and making documents and content easier to find, and personalizing Office Word 2007 (15 total topics).
2.     Formatting text and paragraphs, manipulating text, and controlling pagination (10 total topics).
3.     Inserting visual content, formatting illustrations, inserting and modifying text boxes, and formatting text graphically (15 total topics).
4.     Structuring content, using tables and lists to organize content, modifying tables, inserting and formatting references and captions, merging documents and data sources (20 total topics).
5.     Navigating documents, comparing and merging document versions, tracking changes, inserting, modifying, and deleting comments (10 total topics).
6.     Preparing documents for sharing, controlling document access, and attaching digital signatures (9 total topics).
Students are required to have access to Microsoft Office 2007 Professional software and access to the Internet to complete the course work. The course offers a solid foundation for helping students pass the Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist (MCAS) Exam 77-601. 

MCAS Excel 2007  (July 13 - August 21)

 This course is ideal for those familiar with Word 2007. Users then progress to an advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel 2007.  Topics covered are based directly upon the 5-point MCAS Word 2007 Certification Matrix:

1.     Inserting data using AutoFill, ensuring data integrity, modifying cell contents and formats, changing worksheet views, and managing worksheets (13 total topics).
2.     Formatting worksheets, inserting and modifying rows and columns, formatting cells and cell content, and formatting data as a table (19 total topics).
3.     Referencing data in formulas, summarizing data using a formula, summarizing data using subtotals, conditionally summarizing data using a formula, looking-up data using a formula, formatting and modifying text using formulas, and displaying and printing formulas (12 total topics).
4.     Creating and formatting charts, modifying charts, applying conditional formatting, inserting and modifying illustrations, outlining data, and sorting and filtering data (18 total topics).
5.     Managing changes to workbooks, protecting and sharing workbooks, preparing workbooks for distribution, saving workbooks, setting print options for printing data, worksheets, and workbooks (17 total topics).
Students are required to have access to Microsoft Office 2007 Professional software and access to the Internet to complete course work. The course offers a solid foundation for helping students to pass the Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist (MCAS) Exam 77-602.


MCAS Access 2007  (August 24 - October 2) 

 This course is ideal for those familiar with Word 2007 and Excel 2007. Users then progress to an advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Access 2007.  Topics covered are based directly upon the 6-point MCAS Access 2007 Certification Matrix:

1.     Defining data needs and types, defining and printing table relationships, adding, setting, changing or removing primary keys, and splitting databases (9 total topics).
2.     Creating databases, creating tables, modifying tables, creating fields and modifying field properties, creating forms, creating reports, and modifying the design of reports and forms (7 total topics).
3.     Entering, editing, and deleting records, navigating among records, finding and replacing data, attaching documents to records and detaching documents from records, and importing data (15 total topics).
4.     Creating queries and modifying queries (12 total topics).
5.     Sorting data, filtering data, creating and modifying charts, exporting data, and printing database objects (18 total topics).
6.     Performing routine database operations and managing databases (11 total topics). 
Students are required to have access to Microsoft Office 2007 Professional software and access to the Internet to complete the course work. The course offers a solid foundation for helping students to pass the Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist (MCAS) Exam 77-605.
