College Credit for Military Experience
Credit for Prior Learning
Pikes Peak Community College is a member of the Service Members Opportunity Colleges (SOC). Active duty military members and their adult family members or members of the Army reserve or the Army Naional Guard can enroll in a SOC agreement with PPCC that will be honored at over 1800 SOC member colleges and universities.
An essential part of a SOC agreement is the PPCC Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) program. CPL credits must apply towards a degree or certificate program at PPCC. Program credit is given for the following types of prior learning:
- Published guide: Learning received in a nontraditional setting such as a military or industrial classroom; has been evaluated for college credit and the evaluation results are published in a guide by a nationally known organization such as the American Council on Education (ACE).
- College credits earned from an accredited higher learning institution.
- Standardized testing: a score that meets or exceeds the PPCC requirement on nationally accepted tests such as CLEP and DANTES.
Students who receive credit through the CPL program and who plan to transfer to another college or university are strongly encouraged to contact that institution to ensure the CPL credits will transfer into their desired program. Policies covering the awarding of transfer credit vary from school to school.
Three Steps to a SOC Agreement:
- Complete an online Application for Admissions form with PPCC
- Register and complete six credit hours of college courses with PPCC .
- Request an official CPL be completed by our evaluator located at Ft. Carson.
