The new Falcon Campus is off to a great start! The college held a grand opening celebration to launch the new campus on August 9, and more than 500 people from the community attended to find out about PPCC programs and services. Faculty and staff were on hand representing programs from every division of the college, and there was plenty of food and fun. Career Planning and Advising and the Enrollment Services Center were running full blast to talk to students about career options, take applications, assist students with financial aid questions, and help them navigate the enrollment process.
All the hard work by a small army of PPCC faculty and staff, in collaboration with Falcon District 49 personnel, to get the campus off the ground has paid off. This fall, we have 445 students enrolled at the new site, taking 859 classes. In fact, enrollments at the Falcon Campus accounted for more than half of the college’s new student growth for Fall semester.
Before opening the Falcon Campus, about 22% of all PPCC students came from the Falcon area, and more than half of those attended the Centennial Campus. Having a full-service campus in their own community means that students will save considerable time and transportation costs.
Eight $300 Scholarships good for fall semester 2008 and spring semester 2009 and three iPods were given away to lucky recipients in random drawings throughout the day, sponsored by Farmers State Bank and the PPCC Foundation.
The new campus, a collaboration with Falcon District 49, makes a college education possible for the rapidly-growing population in Falcon and the Powers corridor, as well as towns on the eastern plains. Students can earn a complete Associate of Arts degree, an AA Business Transfer degree, an AAS degree in Natural Resource Technology, take Emergency Medical Services (EMS) classes, and a whole range of community enrichment courses. The Falcon Campus shares the D49 facility with the Patriot Learning Center, a D49 charter high school.
