Nancy Meiklejohn was selected as the Colorado Association for Career and Technical Education (CACTE) Teacher of the Year. She received her award at the CACTE Summer conference in July, and will compete at the regional level for Region V of ACTE.
Meiklejohn has been actively involved in career and technical education for over 27 years. She is presently a Computer Information Systems instructor, teaching courses online and in the classroom including computer applications, Microsoft Project, and Introduction to Computer Information Systems. She has served for the past three years as CTE co-chair of the PPCC Assessment Committee, and she serves on the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. In 2007, she coordinated the design and delivery of a three-part faculty workshop on “Writing for the Real World.” She has worked as a Training Project Manager for Workforce Training, in addition to being the Director of the Learning Enterprises Division.
Meiklejohn served as the Colorado representative at the 2008 ACTE National Policy Seminar in Washington, D.C. and is currently serving as Interim Secretary for CACTE. Most appreciated and mentioned frequently by her associates is her “can do” attitude and cheerful willingness to do whatever is needed to complete an assignment.
Her teacher qualities can be summed up by a nominator’s statement, “Nancy Meiklejohn is well-liked and well-respected by her students, her fellow teachers, her supervisor and all the staff with whom she works. She is an excellent teacher, reflected in her student and supervisor evaluations. Nancy epitomizes the best in the teaching profession and is a wonderful example what a dedicated career and technical educator can achieve to better the lives of many.”
Meiklejohn has served her community on the Ellicott School board as president and member of the school accountability committee, and teaches in her church. She lives in Colorado Springs with her husband, Ron, and children, Audra and Adam.
She received an Associate of Applied Science in Office Administration in 1978 and her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Education from the University of Southern Colorado in 1980. She was awarded her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction in 2002 from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
