Sharon Butler and Shawna Mahan presented at the national American Mathematical Association for Two Year Colleges (AMATYC) Conference in Washington, D.C. on November 21. The title of their presentation was “Favorite Best Practices for College Algebra.”
Arnetta Hartmann, PPCC student and member of the Navajo tribe, was one of 13 students from around the state to receive a scholarship from the Colorado Indian Education Foundation. The CIEF is a nonprofit organization providing scholarships for Native American students through efforts of legislators, individuals and other groups who envision greater awareness of Colorado’s American Indians and their culture, and who understand the need for resources to help Native American students on their journey. More than $50,000 has been awarded by CIEF to Colorado students over the last four years. Past scholarships have been $1,000 per student. The awards were presented November 6 at a gala conducted by the Rocky Mountain Indian Chamber of Commerce.
Amy Reed, adjunct Nursing instructor, was awarded the Sunstar Americas /ADAA 2008 Pride Award for Outstanding Educator, for her continuing efforts to encourage student participation in the American Dental Assistants Association, and for promoting a sense of pride in her students for their chosen profession as dental assistants.
Celia Sisneros, AVP Welding student, and Travis Lee, Welding student and AVP graduate, designed and created personal, individualized plaques that were given to each of the twelve distinguished guests who participated in the PPCC Veterans Day Observance on November 11. The plaques were given in appreciation for their participation, and to honor each person’s outstanding service to their country as military veterans.
Geri Tierney, RN, ONC, Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator, was recognized at the Colorado Nursing Association state convention as District Three Nurse of the Year.
Geri Tierney, RN, ONC, Nursing Simulation Lab Coordinator and faculty advisor for the PPCC Association of Nursing Students (PPCCANS), took eleven PPCCANS students to Denver recently to attend the Colorado Student Nurses Association convention. “We were able to learn and network with students and nurses from all around the state,” says Tierney. Eve Hoygaard, MS, RN, WHNP, BC, President of the Colorado Nurses Association, was a featured speaker, and some of the PPCC students had lunch with her. Dr. Pamela Hanes, President and CEO of the Colorado Health Institute, was also one of the guest speakers.
