Students in the PPCC Social Work program and Social Work Club have been busy this semester reaching out to the needs of the community, through their field placements and through numerous volunteer efforts.
The Social Work Club sponsored a needy family for the holidays. They provided this family with donated items to include furniture, gift cards, toys and food. Social Work Students joined together to make sure each family member received a gift for Christmas and the donations were delivered on Monday, November 24.
Students in the Social Work program collected donated hygiene items for homeless teens. Several bags of shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste etc. were delivered to Urban Peak. A big thanks to all those generous people who gave to the donation boxes located on our campuses.
Our Social Work interns have been busy working in the community while gaining valuable hands-on experience. During the fall semester, students interned at the Center on Fathering, Mosaic and the Department of Human Services (DHS) Family Visitation Center. Another Social Work student was elected mayor of Shoshoni Village on Ft. Carson. In this role she planned a “Make a Difference” day where residents of the village came out and cleaned up around the housing area and other areas of Ft. Carson. For Thanksgiving she put together a Big Potluck feast for all residents of Shoshoni Village and also single soldiers assigned to Ft. Carson.
