The PPCC Community Garden Project is off to a great start. In spite of cold and blustery spring weather, dozens of volunteers dug in to construct raised beds for the new garden at the "Blitz Build" on Saturday, April 11.
Located on the west side of the Centennial Campus, the Community Garden will provide produce to be utilized by the PPCC Culinary Arts Program and also to benefit the PPCC Student Food Pantry.
The Community Garden is being nurtured using general organic methods. It is an ongoing educational project, designed to involve and engage PPCC students from a variety of disciplines as well as community members and local schools in gardening and green practices. Urban Farmer Katie Rosing is manager of the garden and will work with the students and community members who will help to maintain the garden year-round.
Funding for the Garden was provided by the PPCC Foundation and Student Government. The Garden will be supported in part by paid subscribers, who will receive a portion of the bounty during harvest season.
