The Interior Design Department is spearheading the Design for Hope project, to benefit Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Pikes Peak Region. Interior Design students have been divided into ten teams. Each team will transform one of ten identical “rooms” consisting of three walls, a floor platform and ceiling, which will serve as blank canvases. The teams are challenged to create innovative, unique designs that focus on sustainability, energy efficiency and environmentally friendly products incorporating furniture, lighting, finishes, accent pieces, and artwork.
The project began in April, with students planning and developing their design concepts. On June 8, design teams will be given one week to finalize and implement their designs. The project will conclude with a Gala event on the evening of June 19. Matt Locke of HGTV’s ‘Design Star’ will make a special guest appearance at the event. The Gala will include entertainment and refreshments, touring and judging of each team’s design, green vendors showcasing their products, and a silent auction featuring design items, spa and dining packages, and a two hour design consultation with Matt Locke. The project will be open for public tours on June 20 and June 21.
