| Fall Faculty Art Exhibit Opening Reception |

The opening reception for the Fall Faculty Art Exhibit, featuring outstanding works in a wide variety of media and styles by the PPCC Art Faculty, will be held on Friday, September 4 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Downtown Studio Campus Art Gallery. The Mistura Bela Brazilian Jazz Trio will perform live.

| Federal Grant for GIS Program |

| The PPCC Geography Department has received a grant from the National Science Foundation for a pilot project to implement a Tiered Internship Model for Students in Geospatial Technology (TIMSGeoTech). The project has received funding of $149,542 for work beginning summer of this year through summer 2011. |

| Junior Achievement Honors Jerry Fritz |

| Jerry Fritz, Dean of the Economic and Workforce Development Division, was honored by Junior Achievement of Southern Colorado as a Primary Partner to JA and committee chair for the new 21st Century Skills – The World Beyond program. Fritz was recognized for his contributions at the annual Junior Achievement Board of Directors meeting and awards banquet at the Garden of the Gods Club. He will continue as committee chair for the 21st Century Skills program during the coming year. |

| Amy Cornish Translates for Renowned Musician |

Amy Cornish, language faculty, participated in the Pikes Peak Library Annual World Music Series on August 6. She acted as French/English translator for the program’s featured performer, Issa Bagayogo, the well-known musician from Mali. Bagayogo mixes traditional sounds from Mali with a more western techno beat, and is often called "Techno Issa." Cornish also assisted Bagayogo with media interviews.
