| Pioneering Partnership Begins a New Era for Education |

Pikes Peak Community College and The Classical Academy (TCA) held a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, August 27 for the new TCA facility, located on the Rampart Range Campus. This partnership is the first of its kind in the nation, and streamlines education for students from kindergarten through the first two years of college.

| Book Signing - The Immeasurable Spirit |

| Motivational and inpirational speaker and author Latoya Lucas will discuss her remarkable life story at a book signing for "The Immeasurable Spirit: Lessons of a Wounded Warrior about Faith and Perseverance," on Wednesday, September 23 at the Centennial Campus Atrium at 10 a.m. and at the Rampart Range Campus Library at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. |

| PPCC Enrollment is Up for Fall Semester |

Preliminary enrollment numbers for fall semester are in, and they are showing strong growth. Student head count grew almost 16% over last year, for a total of 13,083 students. Full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment grew almost 19%. Falcon Campus has a healthy 13% increase, and online classes grew at an amazing 38%.

| Walkway Bridge Repair on Centennial Campus |
|
|
The elevated walkway bridges between the Aspen and Breckenridge buildings on Centennial Campus are undergoing repair and renovation. The work will fix water drainage problems, and make the walkways safer for pedestrians. As part of the PPCC Emergency Response Plan, the bridges are “Designated Areas of Rescue” for evacuation of individuals with disabilities. Only one bridge at a time will be closed, allowing full access across the other bridge at all times.

PPCC will host the 2nd annual health and wellness fairs for college employees, sponsored by the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education. All faculty and staff members and their families are invited to take advantage of the various free health screenings offered.

The Visiting Nurses Association will administer seasonal flu shots from 11 a.m. -
1 p.m. during the PPCC Student Health Fairs. Please note: these are *not* H1N1 flu shots. Cost is $25 for a flu shot, $35 for Flu Mist nasal spray (ages 2-49), and $49 for a pneumonia vaccine. Sponsored by Campus Life.

| Chelsy Harris, director of the Area Vocational Program and High School Programs, has been appointed by David Skaggs, Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, to serve on the State Concurrent Enrollment Advisory Board to represent the Colorado Community College System. |

| PPCC Faculty Attend 2-4 Conference |

A number of PPCC Faculty have been specially selected to represent PPCC at the Two-to-Four Conference in Denver this year. They include Michelle Bender, Karen Bowen, Russell Flora, Misty Hull, Kris Johnson, Shawna Mahan, Kathy Sturdevant, March Sustarsic, and Rod Thirion. The selections were announced by Dr. Geri Anderson, Provost of the Colorado Community College System. The disciplines meeting this fall are Biology, Business, Early Childhood Education, Economics, Elementary Education, History, Mathematics, Psychology, and Spanish.
