Black Student Union

The Black Student Union has been an active, thriving organization with about 20 regular members. Dainell Montgomery is currently the president and Harry Hammonds, Jr., is social programs director. Other officer positions are vacant at the moment.
BSU meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 1 to 2 p.m. in room A-210 on Centennial Campus.
Their current projects include tutoring, mentoring, and elections for
2010-11 officers. The Club plans to go bowling on October 20, a the Campus Life sponsored event.
Past activities have included presenting speeches to the Black Chamber of Commerce, sponsoring mentors from the BSU to assist students at Fox Meadow Middle School, and speaking to students at two local high schools with significant minority populations about going to college. The group also attended the Big XII Conference out-of-state for the past couple of years. This is an annual event in which Black Student Unions from around the country gather to hear from successful black guest speakers, participate in motivational workshops, and attend social networking events.
The advisors for the BSU are Eddie (Coach Eddie) Hughes, Multicultural Retention Specialist, and Connie Robinson, Office Manager. The club has an extensive list of mentors who help support BSU members in their journey through college. To contact BSU, email Dainell Montgomery at dianell.montgomery@ppcc.edu.
