AES ENGINEERS SCHOLARSHIP
AES Engineers is pleased to be able to continue providing scholarships for the 2010-11 academic year to high school seniors or college students (regardless of courses being studied) who meet certain criteria. ENGINEERING COURSES ARE NOT REQUIRED TO BE ELIGIBLE.
Requirements: Students must submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words in answer to one of the following questions:
1. If you had the authority to change your school in a positive way, what specific changes would you make?
2. How has your family background affected the way you see the world?

BRAINTRACK COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
Braintrack's scholarships are designed to help students who are attending college and working towards a specific career path, while at the same time, helping others evaluate that career as a choice. Essay questions ask applicants to share their experiences and guidance as related to their studies and career. Winning entrants are selected based on creativity, focus, overall thoughtfulness, accuracy, and practical value of the responses. BrainTrack will publish the best responses on its website for use by future students.
The BrainTrack Scholarship for Computer Science helps current students pay for their education. Entrants must respond to essay questions that are geared toward helping people evaluate computer science as a potential career path. BrainTrack will publish those essays which prove most helpful to future students.
The person selected to receive the scholarship will receive a $1,000 scholarship, and the runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship
Requirements: *Must be currently enrolled in a degree program that will lead to a computer science degree.
*Must have completed at least one semester of study in an accredited college or university.
*Must respond to essay questions that are geared toward helping people evaluate computer science as a potential career path.

DOROTHY PARKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - 2010-2011

Dorothy Parker was an image of strength, courage and perseverance. Coming from a family of six children, she was the only one of her siblings who graduated with a college degree. In 1949, Dorothy's husband passed away and left her with four daughters to raise, feed, clothe, and educate. She went back to school in order to gain employment skills, and it paid off. She did an outstanding job in raising her four daughters, and she helped put all of them through college. All four of her adult children have bachelor's degrees, two of them have master's degrees, and one has a Juris Doctorate Degree. A couple of years before passing away at age 95, one of Dorothy's daughters told her that she was creating this scholarship to honor her extraordinary lifetime achievements. Her face lit up, her eyes twinkled, and she smiled and said "thank you." This scholarship provides $1,500 per semester.
Requirements:
GPA: 3.0
MUST be a single, working parent with at least one dependent child under the age of 16.
MUST be seeking a degree or certificate.
MUST be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester.
MUST demonstrate "need" by completing a FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov).

MUST attend a lunch meeting once per semester.
MUST have at least a 3.0 GPA and continue to maintain a 3.0 GPA if selected.
MUST attach a TYPED personal essay to your application detailing who you are (personal statement), what your goals are, and how you will utilize these funds (if selected).
MUST include two professional letters of recommendation on letterhead from an educator, community leader, or clergy member
MUST attach a copy of your transcripts for any previous college classes you have taken.

KAISER PERMANENTE SAFETY NET ALLIED PROFESSIONAL SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP

Kaiser Permanente generously granted $750,000 to four colleges in Southern Colorado to support students pursuing degrees in Allied Health and Nursing who have a deep interest in working in Safety Net Clinics following graduation. In exchange for full financial support of tuition, books, fees and supplies over the course of each scholar's program, each scholar will be contractually-obligated to work or volunteer in Safety Net Clinics in El Paso, Teller, Pueblo or Fremont Counties. Safety net clinics or organizations are responsible for the care of more than 44 million Americans who would otherwise not be able to obtain care. These individuals are either uninsured, receive public insurance (such as Medicaid), or have limited insurance. Safety net organizations provide primary and acute care in ambulatory and acute care settings, generally with a sliding fee scale. Examples of safety net providers include federally qualified health centers, rural health clinics, free-standing or independent clinics, school-based health centers, and family medicine residency training programs. Colorado's federally qualified health centers alone provided care to 420,000 patients in 2008. Examples of Safety Net Clinics in Southern Colorado include, but are not limited to: Peak Vista, Pueblo Community Health, Mission Medical, Open Bible Clinic, Set Family Clinics, Pikes Peak Behavioral Health, Spanish Peaks and Colorado Mental Health Institute. All recipients will be contractually-obligated to give back to their communities and work or volunteer in Safety Net Clinics in El Paso, Teller, Pueblo, or Fremont Counties in Southern Colorado. Scholars have up to four years to complete all work or volunteer obligations, following their graduation.
o All Nursing Scholars must complete 4000 hours of paid employment or 2000 hours of volunteer work in a Safety Net Clinic.
o All Allied Health Scholars must complete 2000 hours of paid employment or 1000 hours of volunteer work in a Safety Net Clinic.
Failure to complete the coursework and program requirements, work and/or volunteer obligation will result in repayment of the full value of the scholarship. Any individual that fails to meet the contractual-obligation and fails to repay will be subject to a formal collections process.

o All Nursing Scholarship Recipients must be accepted into the PPCC Nursing Program prior to applying for this scholarship.
o All Allied Health Scholarship Recipients must be accepted into PPCC.
o All scholarship recipients must complete the FAFSA on an annual basis.
o All scholarship recipients must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and remain in good academic standing at PPCC.
o Any formal disciplinary action at PPCC or criminal activity is grounds for repeal of the scholarship.
o Ability to successfully complete drug and criminal background checks on an annual basis.

To celebrate academic achievements of military students in the Armed Forces Voluntary Education programs. The Student Spotlight Award is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their academic achievement to the military and civilian educational community through an exploration of how the academic experience has influenced their military career. As a means to demonstrate your academic achievement, the committee would like you to address, in any format you select (essay, prose, art*, video*, etc.) the following theme below. You may address the theme from a macro or micro perspective; the key is to identify what you consider your academic accomplishment(s) and then link the accomplishment(s) to your military career. Note: There is not a set minimum or maximum page length for an essay or other written submission.
Requirements: MUST be able to submit electronically or on DVD.
Theme for the 2010 Student Spotlight Award: One of the benefits of being an active duty member is the ability to pursue your own higher education goals while serving your country full-time.
