BENJAMIN GRACE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Benjamin Grace Memorial Scholarship was established through the Pikes Peak Community College Foundation by the parents, brothers, family and friends of Ben. This scholarship will benefit a student who is enrolled at PPCC in the area of auto mechanics, psychology, sociology, veterinary science or child welfare. Students who are planning to transfer to a four-year college or university with the intention of majoring in one of these areas may also apply for this scholarship. Benjamin grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he developed an avid interest in mechanics while working on his first car, his dad's yellow Rabbit and helping his brother keep his old Chevette running. Entering the Army at only 17 years old, Ben grew up quickly, but still maintained his passion for auto mechanics, his ability to connect and communicate with children and his special love of animals. After obtaining his GED, he continued to increase in rank and finished tours of duty in Haiti and Korea. Finally at Fort Carson, he continued his education at Pikes Peak Community College, earning straight A's in psychology and sociology while becoming a very skilled Heavy Wheel Mechanic in the 360th Transportation Company. Out of a very deep appreciation for knowing and loving this young man, this scholarship is given in the hope that it will help other young people find meaning and purpose in their lives.

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succceed in their academic pursuits. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in. The amount of the award is $500. The number of awards varies and is at the sole discretion of the scholarship award committee.

COLORADO ADVISORY COUNCIL ON MILITARY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

As a part of the Annual Colorado Advisory Council on Military Education Conference held every year in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the CO-ACME Council, in coordination with the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Council, sponsors scholarships awarded to deserving U.S. Military service members and family members of U.S. Military service members hoping to pursue a higher education degree. The scholarships are awarded to those who have been accepted to an accredited college or university, or who are current college students seeking support for either a traditional degree-seeking program up to and including Master's degrees or for vocational, career, or technical education. The applicant must attend a Colorado Institution of Higher Learning. Applicants must be committed to attend during the 2010-2011 academic year. Students who have already been selected for full scholarships which will be awarded during the 2010-2011 academic year or have been selected to attend a Military Service Academy are not eligible.
The Scholarships are awarded based on character, leadership, potential for academic success, the importance of the scholarship to academic pursuits, and financial need. A Scholarship Selection Committee will score all applications and select the scholarship recipients. The scholarship selection process is nondiscriminatory and Scholarship Committee members' immediate family members are not eligible for a scholarship award nor can they benefit financially in any way from this program. The actual amounts and numbers of scholarships awarded may vary depending on the available funding in a given year. There is no specified restriction on the use of scholarship award monies; however, it is the intent of the committee that they be utilized in the direct support of academic pursuits.
Requirements: MUST submit an OFFICIAL copy of high school and (if applicable) college transcripts.
MUST submit at least one letter of recommendation from a current or past teacher or employer of the applicant. (Up to three letters of recommendation may be included with the application.)
MUST submit a copy of Military I.D. or papers proving relationship to U.S. Military service member.
MUST submit a single page essay explaining your educational and career goals, and how this scholarship will help achieve these goals. (Essay guidelines: 1 page, single-spaced, font size 10 or larger, no less than 1" margins.)

The Credit Union of Colorado is offering scholarships to students enrolled in a degree, certificate, or transfer program at any of the 13 Colorado community colleges. There will be up to three full-time $1,500, and four part-time $750 scholarships awarded for 2010-2011. Scholarships are renewable for up to 4 consecutive semesters of study, providing the student maintains a 2.5 GPA and continues enrollment in one of Colorado's community colleges. The Daniels Opportunity Scholarships are generously provided by the Daniels Fund for graduating alternative or charter school seniors in the Pikes Peak Region. DOROTHY PARKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - 2010-2011

Dorothy Parker was an image of strength, courage and perseverance. Coming from a family of six children, she was the only one of her siblings who graduated with a college degree. In 1949, Dorothy's husband passed away and left her with four daughters to raise, feed, clothe, and educate. She went back to school in order to gain employment skills, and it paid off. She did an outstanding job in raising her four daughters, and she helped put all of them through college. All four of her adult children have bachelor's degrees, two of them have master's degrees, and one has a Juris Doctorate Degree. A couple of years before passing away at age 95, one of Dorothy's daughters told her that she was creating this scholarship to honor her extraordinary lifetime achievements. Her face lit up, her eyes twinkled, and she smiled and said "thank you." This scholarship provides $1,500 per semester.

MUST be a single, working parent with at least one dependent child under the age of 16.

KAISER PERMANENTE SAFETY NET ALLIED PROFESSIONAL SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP

Kaiser Permanente generously granted $750,000 to four colleges in Southern Colorado to support students pursuing degrees in Allied Health and Nursing who have a deep interest in working in Safety Net Clinics following graduation. In exchange for full financial support of tuition, books, fees and supplies over the course of each scholar's program, each scholar will be contractually-obligated to work or volunteer in Safety Net Clinics in El Paso, Teller, Pueblo or Fremont Counties. Safety net clinics or organizations are responsible for the care of more than 44 million Americans who would otherwise not be able to obtain care. These individuals are either uninsured, receive public insurance (such as Medicaid), or have limited insurance. Safety net organizations provide primary and acute care in ambulatory and acute care settings, generally with a sliding fee scale. Examples of safety net providers include federally qualified health centers, rural health clinics, free-standing or independent clinics, school-based health centers, and family medicine residency training programs. Colorado's federally qualified health centers alone provided care to 420,000 patients in 2008. Examples of Safety Net Clinics in Southern Colorado include, but are not limited to: Peak Vista, Pueblo Community Health, Mission Medical, Open Bible Clinic, Set Family Clinics, Pikes Peak Behavioral Health, Spanish Peaks and Colorado Mental Health Institute. All recipients will be contractually-obligated to give back to their communities and work or volunteer in Safety Net Clinics in El Paso, Teller, Pueblo, or Fremont Counties in Southern Colorado. Scholars have up to four years to complete all work or volunteer obligations, following their graduation.
o All Nursing Scholars must complete 4000 hours of paid employment or 2000 hours of volunteer work in a Safety Net Clinic.
o All Allied Health Scholars must complete 2000 hours of paid employment or 1000 hours of volunteer work in a Safety Net Clinic.
Failure to complete the coursework and program requirements, work and/or volunteer obligation will result in repayment of the full value of the scholarship. Any individual that fails to meet the contractual-obligation and fails to repay will be subject to a formal collections process.

The Joshua ONeill and Zeshan Tabani Enrichment Fund was established in January 2005 by Zeshan Tabani to honor his friend, Joshua ONeill. Joshua is an inspirational young man who happens to have Down syndrome. Joshua and Zeshan grew up in the same neighborhood in Fort Wayne, IN. The mission of the Joshua ONeill and Zeshan Tabani Enrichment Fund is to offer financial assistance to young adults with Down syndrome who wish to continue to enrich their lives by enrolling in postsecondary programs or taking enrichment classes that will help them to enrich life through employment, independent living skills, life skills or another way. The mission of NDSS is to be the national advocate for the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The National Down Syndrome Society envisions a world in which all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life, realize their life aspirations, and become valued members of welcoming communities.
