Become a force for World Peace.
"A different language is a different vision of life." - Federico Fellini, Italian film director
The United States and other countries worldwide are growing ever more inter-dependent on one another. Not only do we trade raw materials, finished goods and services, we exchange knowledge and skills, scientific and medical advances, and humanitarian aid. We travel the globe as tourists and business professionals, cooperate internationally in scientific research and environmental projects, and strive for peace and security.
To accomplish all this, a deep understanding of other cultures and the nuances of their languages and communication styles is of critical importance. Your language abilities can help bridge the gap between cultures, and help forge an understanding and mutual cooperation between diverse groups of peoples.
Multilingual skills will significantly improve your employment potential, and will also enhance your understanding of yourself and the culture you live in. You’ll enjoy a richer appreciation of the variety of cultures in your own community, and better appreciate international literature, music and film. Studies even show that advanced language study improves critical thinking, math and native language skills as well.

AA/AS Degree
The Associate of Arts degree is designed to give you a traditional liberal arts education that will transfer to a four year college or university. The AA provides a solid foundation of study in the areas of arts and humanities, communication, or social sciences. Click here for track specific information. |
Program Description
Foreign Languages are becoming extremely important as a necessary skill and requirement for entering four year university programs. Americans are coming to understand that the study of a foreign language not only becomes very appealing on a work transcript, but that we must also begin to participate and understand people and cultures worldwide. With the increased business and social relationships with areas ranging from Africa, Europe, Japan, the Middle East and elsewhere, we must begin to compete using the most important key to communication-languages!
Foreign Language classes here at PPCC are taught with modern learning approaches and techniques that are truly above and beyond the straight lecture method that was previously used in American teaching institutions. Language acquisition and appreciation are key outcomes resulting from the innovative and creative teaching styles of PPCC language instructors. Learning about other languages and cultures increases your awareness not only of others, but also has an amazing way of teaching one about oneself. |
"60+60" Transfer Guarantee
Spend two years at PPCC, earning your Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree, and we’ll send you off with half the credits you’ll need for a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Guaranteed.
If you sign up for the 60+60 Bachelor’s Degree Transfer Program, we guarantee that the credits you’ve earned at PPCC will automatically be accepted by any four-year, public institution of higher learning in the state – providing, of course, you follow a few simple rules. For instance, you have to maintain at least a “C” in each of your 60+60 courses. And only approved 60+60 courses apply. But other than that, there’s hardly anything difficult about it.
If you think you might want to move on to a state college or university after completing your two years at PPCC, ask one of our advisors about the 60+60 program. Find out more at www.ppcc.edu/60plus60. |
Employment Opportunities
More and more jobs are looking for employees with foreign language skills. Organizations that do business beyond our borders, and most of them do, need employees that can communicate in a very professional and accurate way with others. Many of these businesses and groups are organized in fields such as: environmental, geographical, economics, non-profits, agricultural, manufacturing, tourism and more. Foreign Languages are extremely important for a vast number of employment opportunities. As we continue to build relationships with countries all over the world, foreign languages will be the key to our success in this context. |
Career Path Notes
Our language program offers a variety of class content and structure. We have night classes, weekend classes, and four campuses. Perhaps one of the developments that has really been helpful for students is the new hybrid classes that we offer in various languages. These classes are taught half on-line, on the computer, and the other half in class. Students find it easy to fit these classes into their busy schedule. Students often complete much of the grammatical or written work on their own time on-line and come into the classroom during the week to communicate in that language. This is a cutting edge expansion that has been very successful at PPCC. |
