History is collecting and analyzing the record of the past – what life was like, why events occurred, and how those events led to later and present circumstances. The study of History provides a solid foundation for a broad range of careers, such as law, politics, teaching, economics, business, theater, arts, government, library science, communications, information management, writing, and publishing, among many others. Leaders in every industry can point to their training as history majors as the starting point for their success.

AA/AS Degree
The Associate of Arts degree is designed to give you a traditional liberal arts education that will transfer to a four year college or university. Program Description
The two-year Associate of Arts (AA) degree with an emphasis in History is designed to transfer to a four-year college or university and fulfill the requirements of the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. At the bachelor and graduate levels you may specialize in particular time periods; communities, states, countries, or regions; aspects of life such as society, politics, economics, business, the military, diplomacy, science, the environment, ideas, and culture; or groups in society such as leaders, movements, classes, women, families, and ethnic minorities.

Employment Opportunities
The study of History will prepare you for almost any career. Careers for historians include teaching, research, and writing; law, politics, and government; and applied or public history such as historical editing and publishing, interpreting in museums and management at historic sites, archival records collection analysis, genealogical research, and historical consulting for public and private agencies.

We recommend that you consult regularly with your faculty advisor. If you plan to become a teacher, you must work closely with your faculty advisor to make sure you choose the right courses for a smooth transfer! Teacher preparation programs have specific course requirements which vary by four-year college and university. Pikes Peak Community College participates in a statewide articulation agreement for the guaranteed transfer of an Associate of Arts degree in Elementary Teacher Education and Early Childhood Teacher Education. Before beginning any History course, your must have completed Reading 090 and English 090 (if required) of have placement test scores for ENG 121 (Composition I). We recommend that you be at least enrolled in English 121 when you take your first History course.
