Sometimes life hurts – but YOU can make a difference.
“The foundations for growth and change in an individual, a family and a community are their strengths” – National Association of Social Workers
Social Work is a profession made up of caring people who want to make a difference. People, families and communities face crises and challenges daily. Social workers are there to provide help and support to people in every stage of life, from the premature baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to the elderly widow unable to manage living in her own home. We help people overcome life’s most difficult challenges, to include poverty, abuse, mental and physical illness, disability, addiction and discrimination.
All individuals, families and communities have strengths. Helping people to understand and use these strengths is essential to improving their emotional health and well-being. According to information provided by the National Association of Social Workers, more than 600,000 social workers are educated in the “strengths perspective” which emphasizes working with client resources, capabilities, support systems, and motivations. Learn this skill and many others by enrolling now in the social work transfer program at Pikes Peak Community College.

AA/AS Degree
The Associate of Arts degree is designed to give you a traditional liberal arts education that will transfer to a four year college or university. The AA provides a solid foundation of study in the areas of arts and humanities, communication, or social sciences. Click here for track specific information. |
Program Description
The 2-year Associate of Arts (AA) degree with an emphasis in Social Work provides the first two years for transfer students who wish to pursue a 4-year degree in social work. Because of different requirements at four-year institutions, it is important that students discuss their degree plan with social work program advisors.
While attending PPCC to obtain your AA degree with an emphasis in social work, you will take 5 social work classes as part of your AA elective requirement. Paperwork will be required to facilitate this process so it is important for you to work with a program advisor as soon as you begin your course of study.
NOTE: Colorado State University–Pueblo has specific program requirements for transfer; consult your program advisor for specifics.
NOTE: To be employed in the social work field it is expected that you will be able to pass background checks. This will include fingerprinting for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and a Central Registry Inquiry. |
"60+60" Transfer Guarantee
Spend two years at PPCC, earning your Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree, and we’ll send you off with half the credits you’ll need for a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Guaranteed.
If you sign up for the 60+60 Bachelor’s Degree Transfer Program, we guarantee that the credits you’ve earned at PPCC will automatically be accepted by any four-year, public institution of higher learning in the state – providing, of course, you follow a few simple rules. For instance, you have to maintain at least a “C” in each of your 60+60 courses. And only approved 60+60 courses apply. But other than that, there’s hardly anything difficult about it.
If you think you might want to move on to a state college or university after completing your two years at PPCC, ask one of our advisors about the 60+60 program. Find out more at www.ppcc.edu/60plus60. |
