Sociology
Observe the Human Condition
“Sociology will be satisfying in the long run, only to those who can think of nothing more entrancing than to watch people and to understand things human.” – Peter Berger
What could possibly be more interesting than the observation and analysis of human behavior? According to sociologists, nothing can possibly compare. Sociology explores human behavior in a variety of cultural contexts including individual and group behavior. It relies on scientific research and detailed observational studies to explore humans and their intriguing actions. Sociology helps people understand how society influences their behavior and how their behavior influences society. It is practical and applicable to our everyday lives. AA/AS Degree
The Associate of Arts degree is designed to give you a traditional liberal arts education that will transfer to a four year college or university. The AA provides a solid foundation of study in the areas of arts and humanities, communication, or social sciences. Click here for track specific information.
Program Description
Sociology is a systematic study of society. It explores culture, socialization, social stratification, aging, gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity, social institutions (religion, health, education, politics and government, economy) social change, population and more. Using the tools of sociological analysis, Sociology courses research issues of deviant behavior, abuse, domestic violence and other social problems. As an academic and practical discipline, Sociology deals with developing scientific and reliable knowledge about relationships in group life. Courses are designed to increase awareness of the social environment, to enhance critical thinking skills, to improve knowledge of sociological theories and to equip students for further studies in sociology.
