Introduction to Project Management:
An Online Course

This is approximately a 1½ hour self-contained online course that introduces the participant to Project Management. The course begins with a discussion of the key elements of Project Management and the three core definitions: Project, Project Manager, and Project Management. Next, the Project Management process recognized by the Project Management Institute and widely accepted throughout the Project Management profession is explained: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Controlling, and Close Out. This outline is the foundation for the remainder of this course. The essential relationships between scope, quality, cost, and time in the project are outlined followed by a discussion of scope creep.

The key concepts, terms, tools, and techniques for each of the five phases of a project are highlighted. Among other foundational elements, for example, we have included the Focus Arrow to define “Done Looks Like This” integrated with the Project Charter, the WBS used to define deliverables and activities, risk analysis, activity schedules (network diagrams and Gantt Charts), resource planning, Statements of Work and subcontractors, budget and costs, the communication plan, change management, tracking work performed and actual costs against original estimates using Earned Value Analysis to demonstrate key concepts, and finally, the close-out of the project.

In short, this course provides the participant with a Project Management mindset. It takes the participant through the entire Project Management process from beginning to end at a high level. At the completion of this course, participants will be able to understand and speak confidently about core terms and tools used in Project Management. This course will prepare participants for more in-depth learning in any or all areas of Project Management. This is not a certificate course.

The fee for this course is $125.
