THE IMPORTANCE OF DATA

To be effective as an institution, colleges must make decisions based on accurate information. The office of Institutional Effectiveness is all about that. We provide extensive data that informs our way forward.

PPCC INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW BOARD (IRB)

Pikes Peak Community College encourages and supports the scholarly endeavors of students, faculty, and staff of the College. Pursuit of scholarly work and research often involves the use of human subjects for data collection and analysis.

The role of the PPCC Institutional Review Board (IRB) is to review proposed research projects involving human subjects and ensure that:

  • the rights and welfare of human subjects used in research studies are protected,

  • risks have been considered and minimized,

  • the potential for benefit has been identified and maximized,

  • all human subjects only volunteer to participate in research after being provided with legally effective informed consent,

  • any research is conducted in an ethical manner and in compliance with established standards,

  • all private information will be handled with confidentiality.

Those individuals seeking to conduct such research may not solicit subject participation or begin data collection until they have obtained clearance by the PPCC IRB. Please access the IRB application forms in the PPCC Portal (under Recourses → Committees).

Please note that at this time, PPCC does not accept IRB requests from individuals who are not affiliated with the college.

If you have any questions, please contact the Chair of the PPCC IRB at 719-502-2037 or patricia.diawara@ppcc.edu.
