PPCC Announces New Dean & Foundation Executive Director

Colorado Springs, Colo. – June 6, 2013 – Fran Hetrick is appointed dean of the Communication, Humanities and Technical Studies (CHTS) Division for Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC) and Sue Moore Fenske is hired as executive director of the PPCC Foundation, the fundraising arm of the college.   

Hetrick will create vision and provide leadership to the CHTS Division while working collaboratively with all PPCC’s instructional divisions to ensure students and faculty are successful, academic programs are effective and the needs of the community are being served in the best way possible.

Hetrick is currently the associate dean for transfer studies at PPCC and has 27 years of extensive experience in higher education. Her diverse roles have included dean of students, director of education, director of admissions and new student relations, research associate, grant administrator and instructor.

“She brings rich experience, wisdom, and thoughtfulness to the division and the institution. Moreover, she is a faculty and staff advocate and supporter. Her experience in academia as well as student affairs makes her an exceptional fit for our vision and mission,” said Cindy Buckley, vice president of instructional services for PPCC.

Hetrick has a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Arkansas, a master’s in organizational communication from the University of Northern Colorado, a bachelor’s in education from the University of Arkansas, and an associate’s in liberal arts from Cottey College.

She is chair-elect for the Colorado Community College System Dean’s Council and serves the National Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education Association as a program consultant.

As the new executive director of the PPCC Foundation, Fenske will build community partnerships, establish new programs and develop external funding sources.

“Sue has great experience working with organizations in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors,” said PPCC President Lance Bolton.  “I am confident she will bring a breadth of knowledge to the PPCC Foundation which will grow our ability to help more students succeed.” 

During her career, Fenske has contributed to the success of organizations in higher education, health care, engineering, entertainment, banking and social services by applying skills in business development and communication, public and government relations, organizational assessment and restructuring, and change management. She has assisted a number of colleges and universities in achieving targeted fundraising outcomes by successfully aligning key organizational objectives with the philanthropic goals of donors.

Most recently Fenske served as the executive director for Heartland CARES, Inc., in Paducah, Ky. There she increased revenue from private sources, aligned external relations with branding strategies and acted as liaison to regional, statewide and national organizations. Prior to her time at Heartland CARES, she served as director of development with the Keck Graduate Institute, Murray State University and California State University.

An alumna of Stephens College and University of Louisville, Fenske holds a master’s degree in Business Administration and bachelors’ degrees in Engineering Science and Communications.  A native of Kansas City, Mo., she and her husband Thomas have two sons.

Pikes Peak Community College, in its 45th year of operation, is a two-year college offering associate’s degrees and various certifications in career and technical fields. With four campuses, two military education centers in El Paso county and nearly 200 programs of study, PPCC serves approximately 22,000 students annually.
