College Opportunity Fund (COF)

The College Opportunity Fund is a tuition discount provided by the state of Colorado to students who meet the qualifications for in-state tuition rates and lawful presence in the United States.

Current and former military and dependents, DACA, ASSET, Permanent Residents, and students on visas are all COF eligible.

High School Students and Military/Veterans:  Be aware that these programs require COF to achieve 100% tuition payment. If you choose not to use COF, you will be responsible for the amount that COF would cover.

COF closes at the end of each semester. If you’ve missed that deadline, please note that COF may not be available.

Steps for Receiving COF Funds

You only have to create a COF account once.  You may have done this already when you applied to PPCC or used COF in the past. If you already have a COF account, the website will stop you from creating a duplicate.

Authorize COF each semester through your student portal.  If your student portal says “No Changes Made” that means you have already done this.

Fall Semester COF: Opens to begin applying to student bills the first week of July; Deadline to receive COF for Fall is the last week of January

Summer Semester COF: Opens to begin applying to student accounts first week of April; Deadline to receive COF for Summer is the first week of September

Spring Semester COF: Opens to begin applying to student accounts first week of December; Deadline to receive COF for Spring is the last week of May

Once COF opens for the semester, you will see it affect your balance in your student portal with the other charges and payments. COF will self-adjust on your student bill within a business day or two as you add and drop courses. If you have any other COF questions, please email records@ppcc.edu

COF will discount 145 undergraduate credit hours per student, per lifetime.  If you do not see COF apply to your bill and you have been in school for a couple of years, consider that you may have run out of COF hours. The following may be options for you to extend your 145 hour COF limit.

Institutional Waiver  – One time extension for 30 COF hours.

Post Baccalaureate COF Waiver– One-time extension of 30 COF hours for those with a bachelor’s degree. Email records@ppcc.edu for details.

Colorado Commission on Higher Education COF Waiver –Students who have exhausted other waivers or need more than a 30 credit extension.

If circumstances beyond your control prevented you from receiving COF for a PAST semester(s), you may file a COF appeal. If you have questions about the current semester or any other COF questions, please email records@ppcc.edu

You have 1 year from the semester(s) in question to appeal COF. Once submitted, please allow at least 1 week for an emailed response.
