What is High Impact Learning?

High Impact Learning employs High Impact Practices (HIPs), which are research-based strategies for effective teaching that provide substantial educational benefits to students. These practices are positively associated with:

  • Increased critical thinking and writing skills

  • Higher rates of student and faculty interaction

  • Deeper approaches to learning

  • Increased persistence and better GPA

  • Greater appreciation for diversity

  • Higher overall student engagement
