Discover the necessary steps to effective research
The Starting Line
What is critical for students who start their research journey is to have a process. No process is perfect; a process may demand that you move fluidly between steps. For example, after reading background information on your topic, the scope of your research question may change. That's perfectly fine. The point of this student resource is to help students develop a consciousness about the different steps of research.
Think of other HIPS elements. Based on your research, can you develop an action or advocacy?
"No one undertakes research with the intention of winning a prize. It is the joy of discovering something no one knew before."
- Stephen Hawking
"If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?"
- Albert Einstein
"Creativity requires input, and that's what research is. You're gathering material with which to build."
- Gene Luen Yang
