This new college program will develop your leadership and problem-solving skills, making you a job candidate that hotels, restaurants, event planners and others will want to hire.

What do PPCC Hospitality Students Study?

Students learn about various systems of hotels and service operations, preparing for an entry-level position in the hospitality industry.

Students will learn event planning, hospitality operations and supervision, hotel and restaurant accounting, and customer service skills.

 

HOS Classes You Might Take

Hospitality students can take a variety of classes that prepare them for a career in hotels, restaurants and more.

class 1

Provides a basic Knowledge of the planning and development of an event or meeting, including the budgeting, arranging of entertainment and catering, and the lodging of participants.

class 2

Challenges a food and beverage manager faces in developing a solid customer base is presented in this course. Topics include principles of food production and service management, including menu planning, purchasing, storage, beverage management, and food service layout and equipment.

class 3

Teaches the skills that can help develop effective supervision and management skills that are essential to success in the industry. Topics include how to recruit, select, and train;increase productivity;control labor costs;communicate effectively;manage conflict and change ; and use time management techniques.

Hospitality Program Learning Outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes (PLO) are competencies with which you will be proficient at the completion of an academic program. Program Learning Outcomes link with course learning outcomes and competencies.

Upon completion of the Hospitality program, you should be able to:

  • Employ inventory management, purchasing and costing
    Identify the steps for planning and managing various events
  • Develop business writing and oral communication reports
  • Identify how multiple departments coordinate and interact for optimal results within a property
  • Solve hospitality accounting tasks, to include revenue management analysis
  • Describe, explain, and identify the facility management of varied departments within multiple types of hospitality establishments

It took me four years to finally graduate from PPCC because I was a single mom working a job. I hardly had time to study but utilized the resources I had to help me with homework like TRIO and DSSS. I took advantage of tutoring sessions and I practically lived in the Math center! I received help from the Child Development Center. So, I was able to study, attend club meetings, maybe workout at the school gym and have time to grab my kids and eat dinner with them.
