As an English (Literature emphasis) student at PPCC, you will study a range of classical
and contemporary literature encompassing poetry, short stories and novels, drama,
and non-traditional literature across genres like British, American, minority, science
fiction, children’s, and many others.
These courses are taught by experts in the field who are knowledgeable and passionate
about their course content. You will engage in close reading, discussion, analysis,
and written response to the texts they encounter. This degree is especially helpful
in you plan to complete a degree in English education to teach at the secondary level.
But if you're in any humanities field, social sciences like psychology and sociology,
journalism, communications, creative writing, and a host of other degree programs,
you will find this degree path invaluable preparation for these bachelor’s programs.
Future job prospects when you complete a bachelor’s degree in English, you'll be equipped
for jobs in communications, advertising, education, law, content management, library
sciences, and writing and editing fields.
An AA degree with designation in literature can be completed in two years with a full-time course load. The Associates of Arts degree is guaranteed to transfer within Colorado and will fulfill the associate requirement to continue your education to bachelors and beyond.

Examines American literary works from pre-European arrival on the continent up to the Civil War, including works from diverse people that contributed to American literature. This course also explores historical and social contexts within various genres.
Explores works by William Shakespeare, focusing on a careful reading of these works as well as an exploration of pertinent contextual and historical information. This is a statewide Guaranteed Transfer course in the GT-AH2 category.
Examines the criteria for selecting appropriate literature for children. Explores literature through a variety of genres, age levels, values taught through literature, and literary and artistic qualities of various texts. This is a statewide Guaranteed Transfer course in the GT-AH2 category.
Exposes the student to Irish literature. The course examines significant writings in Irish literature from the ancients through to the twenty-first century. The course emphasizes the careful reading and understanding of works of poetry, fiction, and drama, as well as their cultural backgrounds.

Course Description: Emphasizes the planning, writing, and revising of compositions, including the development of critical and logical thinking skills. This course includes a wide variety of compositions that stress analytical, evaluative, and persuasive/argumentative writing.

Course Description: Highlights connections between mathematics and the society in which we live and is intended for liberal arts majors. Topics include set theory and logic, mathematical modeling, probability and statistical methods, and consumer mathematics.
