How do I apply to graduate?

You may apply for graduation to confirm you have met all requirements for degrees here.

How can I confirm you have received my application for graduation?

You can confirm that the Records office has received your application for graduation by emailing graduation.rec@ppcc.edu

 

What do I do if I entered the wrong information on my application for graduation? 

For information pertaining to graduation/degree auditing, send an email to graduation.rec@ppcc.edu.

If you wish to change your answer for the Virtual Commencement Ceremony, email commencement@ppcc.edu

 

What degree/certificate will be printed on my diploma?

You will receive periodic letters and emails that list how your degree/certificate will be printed on your diploma after the Records office has processed your graduation audit.

When will I receive my diploma? 

Your degree/certificate will be posted to your transcript approximately 4 weeks after the end of the current semester. 

  • Diplomas are not issued at the 2021 Grad Walk. Diplomas and certificates will be mailed to the address provided on your application for graduation approximately 8 weeks after your degree is posted to your transcript. It is your responsibility to make sure the address you provide will be valid at that time.

  • If you have unmet requirements, we will keep your application on file for one semester and check your records during that time to determine if the degree/certification requirements have been met.

  • After one semester has passed and degree requirements remain unmet, you must re-apply for graduation.

 

Where can I get a diploma cover? 

Traditionally, diploma covers are handed out to students who attend the ceremony. This year, diploma covers will be handed out to students who attend the Drive-in Grad Walk. 

 

I moved/will be moving. How do I update my address to get my diploma if I already applied for graduation? 

Contact the Records office by sending an email to graduation.rec@ppcc.edu to update your address.

 

Are there other important obligations I should be aware of before I graduate?

Be aware that financial holds stop the Records office from mailing diplomas. If you have questions about this, email graduation.rec@ppcc.edu. Also, make sure your mailing address is up to date so that your diploma arrives at the correct address.

 

Who do I contact if I have questions about my graduation application/conferral of degree? 

For questions regarding graduation, your degree/certificate, or your degree audit, please contact the Records office at graduation.rec@ppcc.edu.

 

What is the Drive-in Grad Walk?

The Drive-in Grad Walk is an event we created to honor our graduates in-person the safest way possible. Our graduates will be invited to register for a time slot for this event, which ensures we maintain social distancing requirements.

On the day of the Grad Walk, graduates and their families will arrive in their vehicle(s) during their chosen time slot. Upon arrival, they will be guided by signs, cones, and volunteers to the staging area. The graduate will be directed to exit their vehicle, receive graduation materials, have their names read over a loudspeaker, have a photo taken, and walk across the stage. The graduate will then get back into the car and exit campus.

When and where is the Drive-in Grad Walk?

Date: Saturday, May 15, 2021

Location: Pikes Peak Community College, Centennial Campus, 5675 S Academy Blvd

Time: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.* Each graduate will sign up for a time slot starting the week of April 19.

What safety measures and precautions are you taking in light of the COVID-19 pandemic?

We are taking all measures and precautions to support the safety of our graduates, guests, and volunteers. Please see a list of these precautions below:

  1. Mask wearing is mandatory for all graduates, guests, and volunteers on the day of the Drive-in Grad Walk, except when eating and drinking (per state order), and while your photo is being taken on stage.

    1. Students who need accommodations so they may fully participate in the event may contact the office of Accessibility Services.

    2. Faculty and staff who need accommodations should contact Human Resource Services.

  2. Social distancing measures will be in effect throughout the entire Grad Walk. We will be using directional signs and other means to promote the recommended 6 feet of social distance is kept between graduates, guests, and volunteers (except in cars with family members, of course).

  3. We are developing a strategy to sanitize all high-touch surfaces frequently throughout the day.

 

How do I register for the Drive-in Grad Walk?

Registration for the Drive-in Grad Walk will be released here on April 1. An email will be sent out to students who filled out a graduation application when registration becomes available.

 

How do I register for a time slot in the Drive-in Grad Walk?

The time slot sign-up form will be emailed out during the week of April 19 to graduates who register to participate in the Drive-in Grad Walk. Click here to register. 

 

What is the deadline to register for the Drive-in Grad Walk?

In order for us to implement the appropriate COVID-19 safety measures, we ask that you register for the Grad Walk by 5:00 p.m., May 3, 2021. 

 

How can I confirm that you have received my registration for the Drive-in Grad Walk?

After registration for the Grad Walk becomes available and you register to participate, click "submit" on the form. Your response will be recorded and no other action on your part is necessary. Registration for the Grad Walk will become available here, starting on April 1.

 

What happens if I do not register for the Drive-in Grad Walk?

Participation in the Grad Walk is not mandatory, although it is encouraged. After all, you earned it!

In order to attend, you must register. Registration for the Grad Walk will become available here, starting on April 1. Note: You will not be able to sign up for a time slot unless you register first. 

 

Can I participate in the Drive-in Grad Walk if my expected graduation date is for the following summer term?

Yes, students who are within 9 credit hours of graduation may elect to participate. Participation in the Grad Walk does not guarantee award of degree or certificate. Your degree/certificate will be awarded with confirmation of degree audit.

 

Can I still participate in the Drive-in Grad Walk if I have not received confirmation that my degree audit (confirmation that I have fulfilled all requirements) is complete?

Yes, however your participation in the Grad Walk does not guarantee award of degree or certificate. Degree/certificate will be awarded with confirmation of degree audit.

 

I participated in the 2020 Virtual Ceremony and was invited back to participate in 2021 if we had an in-person option. Can I sign up for the Drive-in Grad Walk?  

Yes, if you participated in the Virtual Ceremony for 2020, you are invited to our 2021 Drive-in Grad Walk. More information on how to participate will be emailed to you. If you have questions, feel free to send an email to commencement@ppcc.edu.

Additionally, for 2020 graduates returning to campus for our Grad Walk, we will be providing you with a royal blue honor cord to acknowledge your accomplishment through this challenging time.

 

Can I attend the Drive-in Grad Walk for a certificate, or is it just for degrees?

You can attend the Grad Walk for a certificate, a degree, or any combination/number of the two. You must apply for graduation to initiate the awarding of a degree/certificate. Degree/certificate will be awarded with confirmation of degree audit. Contact graduation.rec@ppcc.edu for more information.

 

Do I have to stay for the whole duration of the Drive-in Grad Walk?

Nope! Your job is to arrive at the time you sign up for, go through our Grad Walk process, then leave campus once you are done and have celebrated your achievements with us.

Registration for the Grad Walk opens here on April 1, and the sign-up form for time slots will be sent out to all students who registered starting the week of April 19. 

 

Who do I contact if I have special needs (e.g. mobility, hearing) should I choose to participate in the Drive-in Grad Walk?

You can:

  1. Mark your request for accommodations in the graduation application.

  2. Reply to the Commencement emails as prompted if you require accommodations or would like more information.

  3. Contact Accessibility Services via email: ppcc.access@ppcc.edu, webpage, or call 719.502.3333. 

 

How will I receive information regarding the Drive-in Grad Walk?

If you submitted a graduation application, you will receive periodic email communications with information pertaining to Commencement festivities. It is your responsibility to list an email address that is correct and checked frequently on your graduation application. Information is also posted on the Graduation page on PPCC's website.

 

What is the dress code for the Drive-in Grad Walk?

Graduates must have and wear a cap, gown, and tassel. Visit the PPCC Bookstore in-person or online to purchase your cap, gown, and tassel.

Graduates should wear appropriate clothing and comfortable footwear under their regalia, bearing in mind they will be walking during the Grad Walk. There is no formal dress code for guests.

 

Are there any costs associated with the Drive-in Grad Walk?

The student is responsible for a one-time purchase of their cap, gown, and tassel, which can be purchased at the PPCC Bookstore. You may elect to purchase invitations and other add-ons as well.

 

What if I don't have a car and/or someone to drive me for the Drive-in Grad Walk?

A Student Shuttle Service will be available to graduates attending the Drive-in Grad Walk who are: 

  1. Driving themselves (single driver) with no one else able to drive your car

  2. Riding a Mountain Metro Transit Bus

  3. Being dropped off at Centennial Campus 

 

How can I sign up for the Student Shuttle Service?

When you register for the Drive-in Grad Walk, you will be asked how you (the graduate) will be arriving. If you mark that you will be arriving in any way other than riding in a vehicle with someone else driving you, you will be contacted with more information about the shuttle service. 

Note: You must use the Student Shuttle Service if you are:

  1. Driving yourself (single driver) with no one else able to drive your car, 

  2. Riding a Mountain Metro Transit Bus, or 

  3. Being dropped off at Centennial Campus 

  

How will the Student Shuttle run during the event?

More information will be coming soon. 

 

Are guest tickets required for the Drive-in Grad Walk?

Tickets are not required for the Drive-in Grad Walk. There is no limit to how many family members can attend, nor how many cars per graduate can participate. (Although, we recommend no more than three vehicles per graduate to ensure everyone has a good view)

 

Can my family get out of their car(s) when I walk across the Grad Walk staging area?

No, family members will not be allowed to exit their vehicles during the Grad Walk. Only the graduate may exit their vehicle to walk across the staging area.

However, your family is encouraged to roll down their windows and make all the noise they want as your name is called and you walk across the stage!

 

Can I decorate my car(s)?

Yes! We encourage you and your family to deck out your car(s) to celebrate this momentous occasion.

 

How are names called during the Drive-in Grad Walk?

On the day of the Grad Walk you will be provided with a card to fill out your name, and, if applicable, the phonetic spelling of your name. Once prompted by our commencement volunteers, you will proceed toward our staging area and hand your card to our name-reader. The name-reader will announce your name as you walk across the staging area.

Other details, such as the degree(s)/certificate(s) you are graduating with, will not be announced as you walk across the stage. 

 

Where do I get my cap, gown, and tassel?

Visit the PPCC Bookstore in-person or online to purchase your cap, gown, and tassel.

 

Do I need to pay for my cap, gown, and tassel?

There is an associated cost for your cap, gown, and tassel. Visit the PPCC Bookstore in-person or online to purchase your cap, gown, and tassel.

 

I am graduating with my bachelor's degree. Which color do I order for my cap and gown?

If you are are graduating with a bachelor's degree, you should order the red cap and gown. Visit the PPCC Bookstore in-person or online to purchase your cap, gown, and tassel.

 

What if I have my own cap, gown, and tassel?

You may wear your own cap and gown only if they are:

  • Black for students graduating with their associate's degree or a certificate, or

  • Red for students graduating with their bachelor's degree.

They do not need to be approved beforehand. You may want to purchase your own tassel, however, which you can do at the PPCC Bookstore website.

 

Can you mail my cap, gown, and tassel?

Yes - you can order your regalia at the PPCC Bookstore and select and pay for shipping to your home. 

 

Is there a deadline to purchase my cap, gown, and tassel?

The general deadline is May 1st. Contact the PPCC Bookstore for more details. 

 

If I graduated in the summer or fall term before the Commencement Ceremony, can I order a tassel charm with the year I graduated on it?

Alternate year number charms for your tassels may be available to exchange or order.  Please contact the PPCC Bookstore to see if they can accommodate this request. 

 

Can I decorate my cap?

Yes! You may decorate your cap any way you like for this momentous occasion.

 

Where can I get graduation announcements?

You can order announcements and much more at the PPCC Bookstore

 

Where do I get cords for clubs, organizations, or programs I’m involved in?

For student clubs, organizations, and programs, you should contact your club advisors for information about cords.

Honor Cords will be distributed as you check-in to the Grad Walk on the day of the event. You will want to verify your GPA to ensure you receive the correct cord for your academic achievement. Here is the breakdown for Honor Cords:

  • Graduating with highest honor, Summa Cum Laude = 4.0 cumulative GPA. Double gold cord. 

  • Graduating with great honor, Magna Cum Laude = 3.75 - 3.99 cumulative GPA. Black and red cord. 

  • Graduating with honor, Cum Laude = 3.5 - 3.749 cumulative GPA. Black and red braided cord. 

 

Will I be recognized for any other programs I participate in at the Drive-in Grad Walk?

Yes, we will be recognizing the following student groups for their participation in one or more of the categories listed below:

  • Active Duty and Veteran Students will receive a Challenge Coin and Medal as they check in on the day of the Grad Walk.

  • COSI Scholars will receive a COSI pin as they check in on the day of the Grad Walk.

  • Students who participated in the 2020 Virtual Ceremony will receive a royal blue cord as they check in on the day of the Grad Walk.

I cannot attend the Grad Walk. Will there be another mail-out of Commencement materials?

We will not be mailing out diploma covers, honor cords, or any other materials associated with Commencement this year, except for the Commencement program.


The Commencement program will be mailed to all students who marked "Yes" in their graduation application, or have changed their answer and signed up before Friday, April 16. To change your answer and sign up, send an email to commencement@ppcc.edu.

 

Will official photos be taken at the Drive-in Grad Walk?

Yes! We will have our photographers there to capture a photo of you on our staging area with a member of our Leadership Team, as well as another photo off to the side of the stage.

 

Can I remove my mask for my official graduation photo?

Yes, you will be permitted to remove your mask while having your photo taken on our staging area. Masks are required at all other times by graduates, volunteers, and guests alike. 

 

Will I be able to purchase graduation photos?

Yes, you will be given a few opportunities to "capture the graduation moment" in your official academic regalia. A photographer will be available during the Grad Walk to take graduate portraits. Proofs with information on ordering photos will be mailed to all degree candidates following the ceremony. 

 

Can I take photos during the Drive-in Grad Walk?

Yes! Graduates and family members are welcome to capture photos and record the moment you walk across the stage.

 

Will the Drive-in Grad Walk be recorded?

No, we will have a crew there to capture highlights of the event, which will be included in the release of the Virtual Commencement Ceremony. Otherwise, the Grad Walk will not be livestreamed.

 

Directions for students on scheduled day of the Drive-in Grad Walk:

Please arrive at the time you sign up for on the day of the Grad Walk. This is a time for celebration, and there will likely be high spirits and lots of action surrounding this event. Once you arrive at the Grad Walk, please pay attention to signage, helpers, and PPCC Faculty & Staff as they direct you throughout the event.

What is the Virtual Commencement Ceremony?

The Virtual Commencement Ceremony originated last year due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we couldn’t celebrate our grads in person, the virtual ceremony was a big success. This is because we can include every student who wishes to participate – no matter where they are located. Thus, we are continuing the tradition this year.

Our 2021 Virtual Commencement Ceremony will include every aspect of a traditional ceremony, such as speeches from our executive and system leadership, video submissions from students and faculty, a keynote address, and much more; all of these are aspects we could not include in our Drive-in Grad Walk this year.

A virtual feature may become a permanent part of the commencement tradition here at PPCC. Check out the FAQs below for more information.

If you marked “Yes” to attending the commencement ceremony in your Graduation Application, you will automatically be included in the Virtual Commencement Ceremony this year. If you marked “Unsure” or “No” to this question and would like to change your answer to sign up, send an email to commencement@ppcc.edu.

 

When is the deadline to register for the Virtual Commencement Ceremony?

You have until Friday, April 16, 2021 to let us know if you want to change your response to attend the Virtual Commencement Ceremony. After that date, you will not be included in the Virtual Commencement Ceremony and your name and degree/certificate will not be included in the PPCC Commencement Program. 

 

How can I confirm that you have received my registration for the Virtual Commencement Ceremony?

If you filled out the graduation application and marked that you were planning to attend the ceremony, your name has been added to our list of registered participants. You will begin receiving email confirmations, but please allow up to 10 business days from the time you submitted your application for the confirmations to come through.

 

How do I upload my photo and information to be used in the Virtual Commencement Ceremony?

You will receive an email from our Photography Company, GradImages, so be sure to check the email address you listed in your graduation application frequently for an email from them.

In this email there will be a link for you to follow to upload your information and photo to be used in the Virtual Commencement Ceremony. You can expect this email around the end of April. For questions about this process, feel free to contact us at commencement@ppcc.edu.

 

How do I upload a video for the Virtual Commencement Ceremony?

We invite all students to send us videos for the virtual ceremony.  Just follow this link and record a short video about who or what inspired you to take this important step toward realizing your dream. Also, feel free to call out your area of study, talking to future students about why it’s so great.

PPCC faculty, instructors, and staff, as well as our Advisory Council members, are invited to shoot a video of themselves offering advice and/or congratulations to our grads. You can shoot it on this link.

The deadline to submit a video for the Virtual Commencement Ceremony is 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2021.
