What is the philosophy of Teen College?

Our program is designed to give middle school campers a college experience and career exploration in one week sessions throughout the summer, providing exposure to a variety of degrees and certifications available at PPCC. We aim to increase awareness of PPCC for middle school campers to feel comfortable and confident to join PPCC's High School Program once they reach high school.  Finally, we believe their camp experience will build their confidence in school and help them clarify their future career pursuits.

 

What are the half day sessions like?
Morning sessions will run from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., Monday through Friday.  This is our traditional teen college where your student has a choice of what class to attend.
 

What are the full day sessions like?
Afternoon sessions run from 12 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Students need to bring a non-perishable lunch, drink and snack.  We do not have access to a microwave or a refrigerator.  Teens will eat lunch together and then participate in fun activities like CPR training, art and craft projects, cyber ninja warriors, and more.  Be sure the Afternoon Explorer class to add your cart when you register.


Are there discounts?

Are there scholarships and what are the qualifications?
Yes!  

We offer $125 off a half day, $175 off a full day.

Qualifications are need based, and funded by Myron Stratton Foundation.  If interested call 719-502-2404.  

Discounts do not apply when using scholarships.

 

What kind of qualifications do the instructors have?

Our instructors are college instructors who teach for PPCC in their field of study and also have worked as professionals in our community.
 
What is the supervision during Teen College?

Once your teen arrives on campus, they are monitored continually, including during breaks.  We have instructors, their assistants, and our Teen College staff to supervise and maintain a safe environment for all.
 
Where do I drop off and pick up my teen?
Drop-off and pick-up will be in the front of the Centennial Campus, at our north entrance.

Drop off times: 7:45 a.m. – 8 a.m.

(If dropping early, consider sending your teen with a light snack/breakfast)

Pick-up times:

Half day: 12 p.m. – 12:15 p.m.  

Full day: 4:30 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.

For security, teens can only be picked up by authorized persons designated by their guardian. We also email detailed drop-off and pick-up instructions and map before a teen’s camp session. 

NOTE: There is no idling before pick up, please do not come early because there is no place to park.  The area used for drop off and pick up is an active roadway.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Cancellations:

·         A full- refund will be offered to those that cancel their registration before the start of the class. 

·         In the event a student is not satisfied with a class on the first day, a refund for the remaining four days will be offered. 

·         Tuition will not be refundable after the first day of class.  

·         Cancellations need to be requested via phone, email or in person at the Workforce Development office.

Refunds:

·         Reimbursement is based on the method of payment and needs to be coordinated with the Workforce Development office. 

·         Payments made by cash or check are processed through the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) and will be reimbursed by check within approximately 3 to 4 weeks by mail. 

·         Payments made by credit card are processed and applied to the credit card account within approximately 7 to 10 business days.


What if Teen College cancels a camp?

If we do not get enough registrations for a class, we will notify you the week prior to the beginning of the camp. We will first try to get campers into another class, either that week or another week, but if we are not able to accommodate your schedule, we will refund your tuition based on the Refund Policy stated above.

 

What paperwork do I need to complete when enrolling my teen?

You will need to complete a Release Form, available to you online (link here or above), or in-person if you register in our office.  The Release Form is required and provides important information about your teen, who can pick them up, contact information in case of an emergency, as well as, a medical and photo waiver.
 
What ages and grades are the teens in Teen College?

Ages: 11-15

Grades: incoming 7th, 8th and 9th graders
 
What about snacks, drinks or lunch during camp?
Half-day session: bring a snack and drink, if desired.

Full-day session: bring a non-perishable lunch, drink and snack.

 

How should my teen dress?
Dress is casual and comfortable, appropriate for the summer and having fun.


What if my teen has to miss a day or more?  Who do I contact?
Contact our Workforce Development office, 719-502-2404, and let us know how many days your teen will be miss and when they will return.


Will attending Teen College help gain admission to PPCC?
No, because the college has open admission and everybody is accepted. In fact, teens can take classes while they're still in high school. Learn more on our High School Programs page.
